Vacation Bible School came to Blyth on Monday and runs until Friday with this year’s theme
“Son Harvest County Fair, Growing the Fruits of the Spirit”. From left: Brooke Middegaal, helper
Nikki Vanderveen, and Lauren Bos make their Jesus loves me flowerpots. Everyone is invited
to attend the final program on Friday at the Blyth Christian Reformed Church where children
will perform songs they’ve learned throughout the week. (Sarah Mann photo)

Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, July 13 were Donna
Sippel and Joann MacDonald.
Ushering was Nancy Wasson. Guest
musician was Margaret Kai.
The new mission statement for the
congregation of Blyth United
Church was repeated as follows:
Blyth United Church is a welcoming
community o'f faith. We celebrate
God’s presence through worship and
study, and through responding to the
needs and gifts of each other.
Emily Phillips was in charge of the
service. The choir sang Wonderful
Grace of Jesus.
The children’s hymn was This is
the Day.
Emily’s message was Chance
Encounters - Lasting Impressions.
She referred to some of her lasting
impressions through her career as a
nurse. As she has retired, she was
thinking back and one of her chance
encounters was with a young Amish
couple who had come into the
hospital to have their first child. A
year later that baby was diagnosed
with leukemia and was sent home to
Wingham to die. A year later the
couple came back to have their
second child and Emily was on duty
again. The couple said they were
glad it was Emily on duty because
they felt she had given them
excellent care the last twice. She was
amazed the way the couple had
accepted the death of their first child
and were looking forward to this
new baby.
Another impression was of a lady
who had been diagnosed with
cerebral palsy and had overcome this
was later diagnosed with cancer.
Emily had gone in to say goodbye as
she was going off duty and had said
to her that she was a very
courageous and strong person. The
older lady said that she was glad that
at least she had made an impression.

One little girl in my wife's Grade
I class appeared to be on the verge
of tears. Sherren took her aside
and asked what was wrong. "My
mommy is allergic to my new
kitten," the girl said.
"Oh, that's too bad," sympathized
Sherren. "Will you have to give her
away?"
"No," the child sobbed. "Daddy says
the kitty has to go."
