Because of three community
weddings, there has been a date
change for Auburn’s Silent Auction
and Family Fun Day. It is now going
to be held on Sept. 20. Anyone
wishing to donate auction items or
their time may do so by contacting
Cathy at the post office. This would
be a great way for high school
students to get some of those
community service hours.
The next general meeting for the
150th celebration will be held on
Aug. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Auburn
Knox United Church.
Welcome to the village, Michael
Dawber and Alex Berry. They are
living in the former Nancy deGans’
home.
Last Saturday Lois Haines went to
Windsor with her daughter and son-
in-law Margaret and Ron Livermore
and family and Mr. and Mrs. Ed
Haines and their family, to attend her
great-granddaughter Angela Jayne
Livermore’s baptism. Her parents
are Donald and Jane Livermore.
4-IIers
make
cookies
The Wawanosh 4-H Mixers held
their meeting at the home of June
Robinson.
Everyone worked in pairs. Tina
Drennan and Reba Jefferson made
chocolate chip cookies with lots of
chips. Margaret Vincent and her
friend A/ery made oatmeal cookies.
The peanut butter cookies were made
by Ellen Jefferson and Emily Moore,
Sophie Jefferson and Nicole Boyle
made the basic tea biscuits. The
leaders watched and helped out when
needed.
While the cookies and biscuits
were baking the roll call was
answered. Members were to describe
their idea of ultimate cookies,
chocolate chip with Smarties was the
favourite. They also discussed the
parts of a wheat kernel and looked at
different types of flour, then talked
about what foods they are used in.
Everyone sampled the cookies and
biscuits and all passed the taste test.

Friends and neighbours of the
Walkerburn Community gathered
for a picnic at Riverside Park,
Auburn on June 22. Good food and
visits were enjoyed by all present.
What a beautiful place for a picnic
and thanks goes out to the Auburn
Lions Club for providing such a nice
park.
Ball’s Cemetery’s 77th annual
memorial service was held on July 6.
Sharon Willis-Whitwell gave the
message. Margaret Kai played the
organ and Jim Craig played the
bagpipes before and after the
service.

“The Thunder team played with
skill and incredible speed as they
passed the ball up and down the
field.” said Coach Mary Ann Drost.
“They were very motivated
throughout the game to gain
possession of the ball.”

Clinton
The Blyth U-13 Mosquito
Thunder had a very successful
week, beating two Clinton squads.
The Crusaders visited June 30,
bringing just nine players to the
contest.
To even up the match, Blyth
fielded just nine as well and still
took their opponent 6-0.
Scoring for Blyth was Ben
Caldwell (two), Gordon Brigham
(two), Shaina Carter and Darcy
Young.
Regal Good earned the shutout in
net.
On July 3, Blyth welcomed the
Clinton Destroyers, but were not
shaken, tallying a 2- win.
Derek Youngblut earned the
shutout while Good hit the net on a
penalty shot and Darren Procter
notched the other goal for the home
team.
Blyth dominated the entire game,
said Coach Alan Young, as the squad
Stewart begins tour
Kirk Stewart competed in the Les
Thomas Memorial Golf Tournament
this past week in London, kicking
off the Tyson Tour.
The Tyson Tour has 17 events
throughout southwestern Ontario.
The 36-hole tournament began
Wednesday with Stewart playing the
Thames Valley course. After a rocky
start, Stewart settled in to shoot an
80, eight over par.
Stewart’s second round on
Thursday was played at Fanshawe
golf course, using seven birdies to
post a two under par 70. His score of
150 was good enough for a sixth
place finish in the field of 40 junior
golfers.

at getting the ball away to the other
end of the field and Alexandra
Martin and Shaelynn Cloakey did a
terrific job when they took their
turns with the centre kick, Hamilton
said.
Stewart said he played the first
hole of the tournament four over par,
and then played the next 35 holes
two over par.
“I am happy the way I bounced
back.”
This week takes Stewart to tour
events in Brights Grove, Mike
Weir’s home course, on Monday,
and to Tillsonburg on Wednesday.
He competed in the District
Optimist tourney in St. Marys on
Tuesday.
Blyth Storm won the game with a
final score of 3-2.
“We did not have a huge turnout
of players due to the heat,”
Hamilton said, but “all of these
players worked hard and played
well.”
showed excellent passing to move
the ball around. “The team always
comes to play.”
The Thunder are now preparing
for the year-end tournament.
