PEOPLE AROUND AUBURN By Margaret Fraser Call 526-1112 Because of three community weddings, there has been a date change for Auburn’s Silent Auction and Family Fun Day. It is now going to be held on Sept. 20. Anyone wishing to donate auction items or their time may do so by contacting Cathy at the post office. This would be a great way for high school students to get some of those community service hours. The next general meeting for the 150th celebration will be held on Aug. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Auburn Knox United Church. Welcome to the village, Michael Dawber and Alex Berry. They are living in the former Nancy deGans’ home. Last Saturday Lois Haines went to Windsor with her daughter and son- in-law Margaret and Ron Livermore and family and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Haines and their family, to attend her great-granddaughter Angela Jayne Livermore’s baptism. Her parents are Donald and Jane Livermore. 4-IIers make cookies The Wawanosh 4-H Mixers held their meeting at the home of June Robinson. Everyone worked in pairs. Tina Drennan and Reba Jefferson made chocolate chip cookies with lots of chips. Margaret Vincent and her friend A/ery made oatmeal cookies. The peanut butter cookies were made by Ellen Jefferson and Emily Moore, Sophie Jefferson and Nicole Boyle made the basic tea biscuits. The leaders watched and helped out when needed. While the cookies and biscuits were baking the roll call was answered. Members were to describe their idea of ultimate cookies, chocolate chip with Smarties was the favourite. They also discussed the parts of a wheat kernel and looked at different types of flour, then talked about what foods they are used in. Everyone sampled the cookies and biscuits and all passed the taste test. Storm wins Angela’s grandfather performed the baptism at the Anglican Church. The Old timers had their dinner in Blyth last week with Lois Haines, Bernice Anderson, Frances Clark, Mildred Lawlor and Mr. and Mrs. Frits Datema attending. Friends and neighbours of the Walkerburn Community gathered for a picnic at Riverside Park, Auburn on June 22. Good food and visits were enjoyed by all present. What a beautiful place for a picnic and thanks goes out to the Auburn Lions Club for providing such a nice park. Ball’s Cemetery’s 77th annual memorial service was held on July 6. Sharon Willis-Whitwell gave the message. Margaret Kai played the organ and Jim Craig played the bagpipes before and after the service. U-13s In memory Rev. The Crusaders visited June 30, bringing just nine players to the contest. To even up the match, Blyth fielded just nine as well and still took their opponent 6-0. Scoring for Blyth was Ben Caldwell (two), Gordon Brigham (two), Shaina Carter and Darcy Young. Regal Good earned the shutout in net. On July 3, Blyth welcomed the Clinton Destroyers, but were not shaken, tallying a 2- win. Derek Youngblut earned the shutout while Good hit the net on a penalty shot and Darren Procter notched the other goal for the home team. Blyth dominated the entire game, said Coach Alan Young, as the squad Stewart begins tour Kirk Stewart competed in the Les Thomas Memorial Golf Tournament this past week in London, kicking off the Tyson Tour. The Tyson Tour has 17 events throughout southwestern Ontario. The 36-hole tournament began Wednesday with Stewart playing the Thames Valley course. After a rocky start, Stewart settled in to shoot an 80, eight over par. Stewart’s second round on Thursday was played at Fanshawe golf course, using seven birdies to post a two under par 70. His score of 150 was good enough for a sixth­ place finish in the field of 40 junior golfers.
