Toronto drops Outlaws
The North Perth Midget Outlaws
travelled to Midland to play in
the Civitan tournament on the
weekend.
In the first game, the Outlaws met
the hometown Midland team.
Midland got the first three goals
before Jason Hamilton managed to
permeate the well-built and well
padded Midland goalie. Assisting on
the goal was Tyler DeVos.
Hamilton, on a roll quickly scored
again before finishing his shift, this
time assisted by Justin Erb and
Jordan Doig.
Midland scored three more but
Adam MacDonald scored the final
Outlaw goal with mere seconds left
in the game.
The final score was 6-3 for
Midland.
The second game was against
Orillia. The teams were well
matched with the Outlaws
outshooting the opposing team. The
battle was back and forth with Brett
Hunt starting the scoring with help
from Cory Chapman. Minutes later,
Orillia scored one, then a second.
Ashton Nichol tied up the score
before the end of the first period.
Orillia was allowed only one goal
in the second.
Doig shot a long ball from near
centre and scored the tying goal
seconds into the third period.
At the midway mark in the third
period, Hamilton scored the go-
ahead goal with help from Liam
Madge and Justin Smith.
The team played well and
managed to maintain the lead until
the end of the game.
The third and final game was for
the consolation. North Perth ended
up playing a strong Toronto Beaches
team and with a reduced bench due
to injuries and suspensions could not
keep up to their level of play. The
final score was 14-3. Scoring for the
Outlaws were Matt Tell with two
and Jason Hamilton with one with
MacDonald getting the assist on
Hamiliton’s goal.

win slip through their gloves with a
rally by Listowel in the final inning.
Lesley Pepper was on the mound
for Brussels with nine strikeouts.

first inning with a triple, then

They would add another run in the
fourth when Jenna Fischer made it
to first after being hit by a pitch,

Sarah McDonald hit a single to
score Fischer.
Listowel rallied in the last inning
scoring five runs on two hits and
two errors.
The final score was Listowel, six,
Brussels, three.
The Brussels bats finally came
alive in the final innings of the
rematch against Listowel July 6, but
the effort was too little too late.
The game saw Lesley Pepper on
the mound to start with eight
strikeouts and allowing only two
runs. Lisa Black was in for the final
inning allowing six runs on two hits
and three errors.
The Brussels offensive had been
shut out until the fourth inning when
Rachel Speers waited out a walk and
Heather Little reached first on an
error. Melissa Souch waited out a
walk to load the bases.
Singles by Pepper, Jenna Fischer,
Sara McDonald and Lacey McCall
would score four runs.
Brussels came to the final
inning down by four. Catrina Josling
waited out a walk and Black
ripped a single. Ashley Keffer
outran the throw to first to score
Josling and Black. Cyndi Stevenson
hit a double to leave runners on

Brussels U-lls take loss
Londesborough PeeWees
slip past Varna 21-19
It was a win and a tie in two high-
scoring baseball games for the
Londesborough PeeWees last week.
On July 2 the team visited Varna
and came out on top of a 21-19
score.
Leading the offensive onslaught
were Drew Miller with a homer in
the first and an out-of-the-park blast
in the fifth, and Mike Elliott, who
homered in the third.
Doing duty on the mound were
Lee Watkins, Derek Dolmage,
Anthony Wilts and Miller.
On July 3 Londesborough was
home to Cromerty. Dolmage pitched

However, it was turnabout in the
second with the visitors moving
ahead by two.
Things see-sawed back in
Londesborough’s favour in the third
to end the inning with the home
squad up 13-9. However, Cromerty
doubled the hosts’ total in the final
two innings to finish the game
knotted 17-17.

It was another tough game for the
Brussels U-ll squad when they met
Newton III on Canada Day in spite
of some energetic help received
from three U-9 players brought up to
support an understaffed team.
Patti Blake, Christopher Ross and
Jenna Ford made outstanding efforts
to contribute, often being found in
the middle of the plays and working
the ball to the opponent’s end.
Newton struck early, getting the
ball past goalie Christine Bone.
Chris Becker made a nice play in
front of the net, stopping a shot with
his back.
Natalie White took the action to
Newton’s crease, but was stopped.
Emily Prior and Vicky Blake
made a good pass to move the ball
out, Jason' Warwick, Avaleigh
Nonkes and Curtis White worked
the midfield and Morgan Deitner
was strong on defence. Kristen
Grobbink and Kabrina Bishop
helped clear the zone and move the
ball out.
After a lengthy battle for control
in front of the Brussels net, Newton
put another over the line.
Randy Zwep started the second
U-6’s Heimstra
good in net
Heat couldn’t slow down Brussels
U-6 Ils when they took to the field
on June 25.
Coach Tammy Hamilton said Kai
Heimstra did a superb job in net,
saving a couple of possible goals
and Dalen Martin ran hard and
really worked to stay in the other
end and fight for the ball.
Dawson Peachey also worked
hard and did a fantastic job of
throwing the ball back in to play,
Hamilton said, while Laura Souch
and Johanna Blake worked well
together taking the ball to the other
net and even managing to score
once.

U-9 squad
Despite a 3-0 loss against
Listowel last Wednesday night, the
Brussels U-9 soccer team played
great.
Anthony Leckley worked the net
for the first half of the game and
made some great saves.
Both teams worked the whole
field which resulted in a break away
the home team. In spite of several
good stops around the crease by
Menzi and assistance from Bone and
Becker, Brussels saw three quick
netters to put them down 5-0.
The final tally was 6-0 as Newton
topped off the scoring in the final
minutes.
