Grant Sparling gets OPA recognition
His propane business may have
started simply enough at the back
door of a hardware store on the main
street of Blyth, but 52 years later,
Grant Sparling, founder of
Sparling’s Propane, has been
presented the Ontario Propane
Association’s (OPA) highest honour:
the first ever Lifetime Achievement
Award.
In presenting the award, a 14-inch
lead crystal flame, OPA president
Rene Chartier talked about
Sparling’s strength of character, his
commitment to people and his

The descendants of Thomas and
Gertrude Williamson gathered at
Seaforth Agriplex on June 21 with
109 in attendance.
An afternoon of visiting and
sharing family history was enjoyed,
followed by a barbecue supper.

Headquartered in Oakville, the
OPA is the voice of the propane
industry in Ontario and is the largest
propane association in Canada.
Membership includes domestic and
international companies involved in
all aspects of the propane industry.

every three years.

We are glad to hear that Margaret
Nesbit has moved from Wingham
hospital to Seaforth Manor
Retirement Home.
Congratulations to Paul and
Nicole Kerr who celebrated their
wedding anniversary on July 7.
Many people celebrated their
birthdays this first week of July,
including Effie McCall, Nicole Kerr,
Brenda Brooks, Betty Elliott, Jenny
Elliott, Bev Elliott, and Don Craig.
Ken Jackson celebrated his 93rd
birthday July 7 and Joan Watson
celebrated Tuesday.

Marilyn Craig travelled to Stratford
on Saturday, July 5 to help celebrate
Lauree (Kane) and John Elder’s 25th
wedding anniversary.
Lauree is a niece of Bodie and
Don’s.

on Sunday, July 6 were Ollie and
Bodie Craig. Ushering was Nancy
Wasson. Guest musician was Lynda
Lentz-McGregor.
A new mission statement for the
congregation of Blyth United
Church is as follows: Blyth United
Church is a welcoming community
of faith. We celebrate Cod’s
presence through worship anc study,
and through responding to the needs
and gifts of each other.
Lorna Fraser was in charge of the
service.
The children’s story was about
Lambert, a lion brought to a mother
sheep in error. Loma’s message to
the adults was The Shepherd
Psalm.
July 13, Emily Phillips will be in
charge of the service. July 20 Ollie
Craig is in charge. July 27 Judy
Gleave and the Youth Group are in
charge.
Oct. 26 is the 149th anniversary
service in the morning. For the
evening service Rev. Ramirez will
be speaking.
The Men of Note will be
performing.

meeting.
