Cardiffs celebrate golden years
Congrats
Jack and Audrey Cardiff of Brussels celebrated 50 years of
marriage with an open house and dance on Saturday night
in the BMG arena. (Vicky Bremner photo)
It was a golden day on Saturday as
Audrey and Jack Cardiff celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary with
family and friends at the BMG arena
in Brussels.
Audrey Stewart, the daughter of
Albert and Elizabeth Stewart, was
bom in Huron Twp.
John Cardiff, son of Albert and
Florence Cardiff, was bom in Grey
Twp.
The couple was married at Clark’s
United Church on June 20, 1953 and
the ceremony was officiated by Rev.
Purchase. Attendants were Catherine
McKague and Kathy Edgar.
After a honeymoon in northern
Ontario, the couple lived in
Molesworth.
Jack owned a service station in
Molesworth and in 1956, he bought
a farm in Morris Twp.
In 2000, Jack sold the farm to his
sons but still helps them.
Mr. and Mrs. Cardiff have six
children, three boys and three girls.
Jack sings in a barbershop choir
and also in a quartette while
Audrey keeps busy with church
work and the Huronlea volunteer
auxiliary.
The highlight of the anniversary
party on Saturday was the
attendance of Janet Cardiff and her
husband, George from Berlin, Jack’s
aunt Kathleen and uncle Frank from
Alliston and his sister Jean Wolfe
and friend Allan Jameson from
Salmon Arm, B.C.

songs, accompanied by her guitar The sermon, entitled What is

responsively by the whole gathering,
then the children approached the
front of the worship area for their
special time with Rev. Cathrine
Campbell.
Rev. Campbell first showed them
the new digital camera with which
she will record her vacation trip.
They talked of how memories can be
recorded in hearts and minds as well
as in cameras.
Scripture reading was 2 Samuel 5:
1 - 10; 2 Corinthians 12: 2 - 10; and
Mark 6: 1 - 6, read with the
reading from Mark in which Jesus
observed that a prophet has no
honour in his own country. Rev.
Cathrine spoke of traveling to
faraway places to enjoy their charm
when we may not truly realize the
great loveliness of where we live,
just because it’s familiar. She said
that with the July church holiday,
congregants have the opportunity to
meet with others, thus more
opportunities for caring and sharing.
The offering was taken by Leanne
Armstrong and Gordon Mitchell.
It has been suggested that instead
of putting pennies in the tower bank
at the back of the church, members
should have a new slogan, Toonies
for the Tower, and hopefully all will
donate generously to this cause of
repairing the church building.
Melville will worship with
Brussels United Church for the
month of July, and will be back to
Melville on Aug. 3. Pastoral care in
July will be provided by Joan Golden
and in August by the Rev. John
Neilson and the Rev. Theresa
McDonald Lee. In both months, any
parish nurse concerns can be brought
to Janna Dodds.
