The Citizen, 2003-07-02, Page 15THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JULY 2, 2003. PAGE 15. Valedictorian acknowledges teachers’ efforts By Ian Pearson Teachers, Parents, and fellow stu dents ... On behalf of my classmates I would like to say how great an honour this is to win this award for vale dictorian, and thank you to those of you who voted for me, because to tell you the truth, I didn’t think I was going to win. Throughout the year our teachers have taught us a lot about how to improve our work habits, and to get the best grades we can, and everything they have taught us this year will be of use to us in high school. I can remember at the start of the year some of us were having trouble with our school work, but now we have mastered it with the help of our teachers. This year has been really great for our class, and we are all really excit ed to be going to high school, but also we are also sad because a lot of our friends will be going to different schools and we will not see them as often. Leaving this school will be hard because there are so many memories, we know everyone here, but in high school we will hardly know anyone. Some of our favourite memories of this year have been from music class. Mr. Payne is great for music Valedictoran proud Continued from page 13 basketball and Mrs. McKee’s humourous stories about being a mother. I am very proud to have been the prime minister of the student coun cil at our school this year and I am honoured to have the opportunity to class because he is the first teacher who didn’t make us learn music notes, he plays the songs on his gui tar and we sing. During this year the teachers have been very nice. If you are ever in need of their help, they will always be willing to help you. Mr. Payne gave us good math skills. Miss Henry taught us a lot about our country’s heritage. Miss Van Bolhuis teaches the SCC class and from what I hear she is great. Mrs. C teaches us French. She has been the best French teacher we have ever had but no matter how good she is I will never get it. Mrs. Cochrane keeps the files in order and is like a second mother to all of us. And Mrs. McDowell is the lady with the flame red hair who seems to be everywhere when we don’t expect her to be, and keep the school running smoothly, like a Swiss watch. Now I am coming to the end of my speech so to all of you I say thanks. By Jim Cochrane I would also like to say, how great of a time we have all had this year. It has been a lot of fun for me and all of my classmates. I have tried to make this my best present this speech to you tonight. Throughout my stroll down the boardwalk, I have learned so many important things that I will need and use later in life. I know that to reach this point, everyone here has encountered his or her own hills and valleys, and tonight I hope everyone Class of 2003 - The graduates of Grey Central Public School were, back row, from left: Mike Dammeier, Justin Hubbert, Nathan Prior, Jessica Zahn, Katie Gebhardt, Scott Phillips, Travis Brodrecht. (Sarah Mann photo) and the most fun year, because some of us are going to different high schools. All in all I think this has been my best year, so on behalf of the class I would like like to say thanks to Mr. Payne, Mrs. McDowell, Miss Van Bolhuis, Mrs. C. and last but not least Miss Henry for doing a great job this year. They are all nice teach ers with their own sense of humour. I would also like to say thanks to all my classmates for putting me in to be PM is able to enjoy and celebrate this class’s sunset from the boardwalk. I wish all of my fellow classmates the best of luck in the future and I hope years from now we are able to look back down the boardwalk to this occasion together. Thank you. this position. I hope, I didn’t let you down. I would like to say another thing and it is about how Miss Van Bolhuis is leaving next year, which is sad news for some people. To tell the truth I wasn’t all that smart when I went to her class, but over three years I have pulled up my socks a lot Inspiring poem ends speech Continued from page 14 touching. “You Can Be Whatever You Want to Be”, written by Donna Levine. There is inside you all of the poten tial to be whatever you want to be All of the energy to do whatever you want to do. Imagine yourself as you would like to be, doing whatever you want to do, and I am sure everyone else in her class has too. To the school, she will be a great loss. As you all know, I could talk for hours, so before I put you to sleep or get off topic, a final thanks to every one and to the audience you have been great. Thank you. And each day, take one step toward your dream. And though at times it may seem too difficult to continue, Hold onto your dream. One morning you will wake to find that you are the person you dreamed of - Doing what you wanted to do - Simply because you had the courage to believe in your potential And to hold onto your dream.
