I would like to welcome you to the 2002-2003 gradu ation ceremony. Guests, teachers and fellow gradu ates: This gradu ating class began our stroll on the boardwalk nine years ago when some of us entered kinder garten at Brussels Public School. As a group, we have lost friends and fel low classmates, but we have also acquired new friends and classmates along this part of our journey on the boardwalk of life. Throughout our primary school years, the group was divided into different classrooms, but we always spent time at recess and after school together. We made fond memories taking naps under the climber, play ing on the ‘old’ jungle gym and equipment outside and trying to act like the ‘big kids’ who graduated on an evening like this many years ago. As we got older and continued our stroll down the boardwalk, this group was once again learning and having fun together. We went through provincial testing together twice and we even experienced a medieval feast! We discovered our entrepreneurial skills in Grade 5 and 6 with Mrs. Schumacher and our spring craft shows, and we began going to school dances together, which was the most exciting part of our lives at the time. Once again we progressed down the boardwalk and entered our sen ior school years at Brussels Public School. We gained the leadership roles we had once imagined receiv ing and we experienced an entirely different school atmosphere. As Grade 7 students we watched the Grade 8s enjoy their final year at Brussels and learned the expecta tions of being the senior students. In September of 2002, we finally became “the big kids” on the board walk. With a new perspective about school, we learned we had a respon sibility to our parents, the staff and the younger students of our school. Keeping with tradition, the graduat ing class took part in organizing a haunted house in October and since then the school year seems to have flown by with many student council- organized events, a Christmas con cert, spring craft show, year-end trip to Camp Celtic and now graduation! What has been untraditional about this school year is the size of our huge class. (I am sure our teachers will tell you how difficult 15 stu dents are to look after). Tonight, we have finally reached our first sunset on our boardwalk. We have shared the incredible jour- Off to Madill - Brussels Public School’s Grade 8 graduation class is, back row, from left: Justin Brown, Adam Corbett, Bradley Hill, Christopher Jutzi, Chris Corbett, Chase Chapman. We will always remember Christopher’s day as a science teacher, Jill’s nickname Jilly Bean, Justin’s nickname acquired at camp, Ashley’s many falls, trips and stum bles, Michelle, Chris and Adam’s amazing athletic abilities (and of course the boys’ hair). Chase’s fun with the filter experiment and plunger, Becky’s blue smurf hair colour, Brad’s affection for four- wheelers, Laurian’s stories about Holland, Lauren’s great dance moves, Stacey’s need for sleep and Pam’s sociability.
