The Citizen, 2003-07-02, Page 12PAGE 12. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JULY 2, 2003. Blyth Public School Looking back to kindergarten feels like yesterday By Kendall Whitfield Good evening. It is with great pleasure that I welcome all parents, guests, staff members and fellow students to the graduation ceremonies of Blyth Public School’s class of 2003. 1 feel very privileged to be speaking tonight on behalf of the entire class. It doesn’t seem possi ble that time has passed so quickly to lead us to this night. This is the night you wait your whole nine years of public school for - Grade 8 graduation, the end of one chapter in the big book of life. Because of our teachers and throughout those nine years, the love and support of our family and friendships old and new, I'm very confident that we are more than ready for the next chapter. It seems like yesterday that we walked through the doors of Blyth Public School, scared little boys and girls all dressed up for that first big day, so shy and nervous. Our fears soon disappeared when we were welcomed by loving kindergarten teachers Mrs. Buffinga and Mrs. Webster. It didn’t take long to settle into a routine and most of us couldn’t wait to return every other day. My mom reminds me of snow days when she would have to drive me into town because I’d ciy, not wanting to miss a day of school. Hard to believe isn’t it? I spent every day this winter praying for a storm day. Remember Marvelous Me? Weren’t we proud wearing that spe cial hat? We were first in line-ups and we took messages to the office. What a great experience to set the foundation of our school career. Off to Grade; 1 we went. Mrs. Picked and Mrs. A.G. were our teachers. This was the year that the whole class got to meet each other for the first time, 24 students alto gether! Learning to read - Oh! And that’s the year the dreaded public speaking started. Which I guess wasn’t such a bad thing since it prepared me for wb it I’m doing here tonight. Unfortunately, because of split grades this would also be the last year we were all together as one class until this school year. I would like to thank all the teachers staff and volunteers who made our extracurricular activities possible, from sports teams to chess club and we can’t forget band. Miss Pearson has done an awesome job! Mrs. Cronin’s Peacemaker pro gram has given everyone great prob lem-solving skills and then, to be rewarded at the end of the year with a swimming and pizza party. That 2003 graduates - Grade 8 graduates from Blyth Public School were, back row, from left: Blake Hesselwood, Lawrence Weiler, Adam De Boer, Richard Gregg, Adam Young, Frank Van Hittersum, Zach Wood, John Bokhout, Nathan Schultz. Front: Ashley Cartwright, Stacy McLellan, Hannah Bjorkman, Brittney Peters, Jake Edwards, Kendall Whitfield, Katie Stryker, Lisa Nichplson, Erin Moore, Ashlee Cook, Laura Baarda, Nicole Frazer, Heather Schmidt, S was a lot of fun!! For people to give up jtheir time for us means a great deal. Do you remember the never-end ing trips to the East Wawanosh Centre? I think by Grade 6 we could have all been certified tour guides because we’d been there so many times. Those nature trips were a far cry from this year’s trip. phanie Root. (Photo submitted) Camp Celtic was a blast. What a great way to end the year - a long weekend away with the whole class, sharing good times and making special memories that will last the rest of our lives. Last, but certainly not least, Big Bear Black also known as Ms Black. It’s hard to sum her up in one para graph. A friend, a leader, a good lis tener, all rolled into one. She’ll cer tainly be missed. Her bright bubbly smiling face always makes you want to smile back. Seaforth doesn’t know how lucky they are! I’d also like to thank all the teach ers and staff, past and present who touched our lives along the way. I Continued on page 16 Best ClaAA. 2003 Weiler Whitewashing Ltd.
