(Vicky Bremner photo) The June meeting of the Melville Guild was held at the home of Leona Armstrong on Tuesday, June 17 with 11 members and seven guests present. Mrs. Armstrong opened the meeting with a reading We Are Called to be Friends. Everyone listened to Doris McKinley’s male choir on tape as they sang Happiness Is. Mrs. Armstrong led in prayer and Dona Knight introduced the guest speaker, Brooklyn Wheeler. Brooklyn gave a very interesting talk on her mission trip to Bulgaria. She also showed pictures. Mrs. Armstrong thanked her and presented her with a gift. Jeanne Ireland read the scripture which was taken from St. John 15: 10-15. Mrs. Armstrong read the topic, Jesus Lived His Life in Gentle Ways, then played a tape. Mrs. Armstrong led in prayer to close this part of the meeting. movies of Canada for social studies. Miss Henry’s Grade 7s were working hard to complete their French projects about their summer activities for the fall fair. They were getting as much done as they could in science, geography, history and math. The Grade 8s are preparing for graduation and saying their goodbyes. The SCC class is very sad to be saying goodbye to Miss VanBolhuis, who has accepted a job in Stratford for next year. All the best with your new teaching position, Miss Van Bolhuis. The treasurer’s report was read by Jeanne Kirkby. It was moved by Mary Huether and seconded by Mary Work that the Guild give the church managers $3,500. The WMS dinner in September and the Rebekah dinner in October were discussed. Mrs. Armstrong gave a brief report on the WMS Presbyterial spring rally held in Belmore and Mrs. Knight gave a brief report on the children’s rally held at Camp Kintail. The anniversary cookbooks were discussed as was the display for the fall fair. The roll call was answered with everyone telling their plans for the summer. The next meeting will be on Monday, Sept. 15 with Mrs. Kirkby and Cathrine Campbell in charge. The latter will speak on her trip to Europe, which she is taking this summer.
