(Photo submitted) Girls team enjoying good season The Blyth girls combined U-15 and U-17 soccer squad has had a very good season to date, capturing five wins while taking no losses. In their first game of the year, May 15, they routed Clinton 6-0. Scoring for Blyth were Lauren Bouman, Erika Sturzenegger (three), Kerissa VanAmersfoort, and Cassandra Uyl. Assists went to Sturzenegger, VanAmersfoort and Jake Edwards. In the match-up against Lucknow I, May 20, Blyth topped their opponent 5-1 with goals coming from Jenna Rinn (two), Andrea Londesboro suffers first loss Sturzenegger (two) and Kendall Whitfield. Helping net the ball were A. Sturzenegger (two), Rinn, Whitfield and VanAmersfoort. The following week, Blyth was held to a lower score by the Goderich squad. A. Sturzenegger scored two and Jory-Lyn Uyl added a single. Assists were earned by E. Sturzenegger (two), Brittney Peters and C. Uyl. Goderich was kept off the board. The Lucknow 2 team had no more success when they played the Blyth girls June 3. A. Sturzenegger hit the net twice and VanAmersfoort added one for the 3-0 win. Assists went to Rinn (two), A. Sturzenegger, C. Uyl, E. Sturzenegger and Peters. It was a closer game June 10 when Wingham took to the field. Goals from Whitfield, C. Uyl, A. Sturzenegger and VanAmersfoort help the team to a 4-2 victory. Setting up the plays were Bouman (two), E. Sturzenegger, Whitfield, C. Uyl and Jessica Wheeler. This is the first time there has been an all-girls team in this age bracket. They compete against six other squads in the league. North Perth Midget Outlaws lacrosse team lost to Fergus’s tier one team last week. Fergus scored four times before the Outlaws were able to penetrate the strong force of the Fergus goalie. Tyler DeVos, assisted by Drew Campbell, scored well into the first period but Adam MacDonald quickly added another just a minute later. Assisting MacDonald were Cory Chapman and Ashton Nichol. Fergus added one more to end the period but came on strong in the second period with a couple of quick goals. OVEN STRAWBERRY JAM About 8 cups strawberries, large ones halved, small left whole 4 cups sugar 4 tbsp, balsamic vinegar Put berries and sugar in large pot. Let them stand overnight stirring several times. Boil quickly for 10 minutes and add balsamic vinegar. Pour into two baking dishes and cook 6 - 8 hours in a 150°F oven, stirring occasionally until it has become the consistency you like. After winning every game this season so far, the Londesboro PeeWees experienced their first loss on Thursday night against Usbome. Pitchers for the game were Anthony Wilts, Nathan Salverda, Derek Dolmage, and Drew Miller. Londesboro scored only three runs in the first three innings compared to the six runs scored by Usbome. In the fourth and fifth innings, Usbome brought in nine runs and U-9s edge Elma On June 18, Brussels U-9s played Elma II at Elma school. They played a very defensive game with Cameron Stewart in net for the first half and Anthony Lichti in for the second. They made plenty of great saves. There was a great break-away by Ethan Nichol which almost resulted in the first goal of the game. Then Jesse Rapson scored for the visitors. Anthony Lichti made a great save when Elma was allowed a penalty shot. Brussels won 1-0. Coach Krotz describes this as their best game yet.
