(Sarah Mann photo) Locals lose 9-8 The Brussels Midget girls played host to Crediton on Sunday, June 22. Catrina Josling started on the mound for Brussels allowing four Crediton runs to cross the plate. Lesley Pepper came in to finish the game with seven strike-outs and allowing five runs. At the plate, Brussels started out strong with Pepper leading off with a double and Jenna Fischer and Lacey McCall waiting out walks. Josling cleared the bases with a U-6 Ils have successful night It was another fantastic night of soccer for the Brussels U-6 Ils, recently. The first goalie of the night, Owen Hamilton made a great save. Dawson Peachey Johanna Blake, Dalton Hamilton and Jenna Thompson ran very hard with their team and made the greatest of efforts to protect their net. Seth Nichol and Kai Heimstra both did a fantastic job in net, making great attempts to try to stop that ball from going in. Dalen Martin and Eric Van Nes both worked very hard at running the ball to the other end and even managed a couple of scores. Shaelynn Cloakey, Alexandra Terpstra leads U-6 III scoring With hard play by Daniel Fritz, Jamie Perrault, Riley Holthuysen, Jacob Holthuysen and Jessica Johnston, the Brussels III U-6 team had a great game against Brussels I. Scoring for the Brussels III team were Matthew Terpstra (two), J. Holthuysen, Joel Kipfer, Daniel Lichty, and Curtis Terpstra. No information was available on the Brussels I score. double. The next home games are Monday, June 23 and Monday, June 30 at 9 p.m. Martin and Connor Bridge made great strides with fabulous kicks from the centre position. Laura Souch made some great assists and worked really hard to get that ball away from the boys. Rachel Hastings ran hard and worked hard to get that ball to the other end of the field. Destiny Haskins also worked hard to keep up with the fast-paced team. Donna M. White Treasurer Great week for Pre-Mites What a great week for Brussels 2 Pre-Mites to show their stuff, with back-to-back games Monday and Tuesday night. Monday night’s game was against not only their rivals, but many best friends. Brussels 1 hosted Brussels 2 for one of the most exciting and fun games of the year. Many great plays were made from players on both teams. As the season is half over the players’ skills have improved and they have learned a great deal about throwing the ball where it needs to be. First-time backcatcher Meagan Dolmage did well and Carlie and Wyatt Ducharme showed their abilities behind the plate. Bringing in runs for Brussels 1 Clinton edges Thunder The sixth game of the Blyth Atom Thunder team was played on Tuesday, June 10. This entertaining game was played at the Blyth arena field against the Clinton Titans. Game captain Brendon Boven started the game as inside left forward. The first goal was scored by Brent Drost with an assist from Jessie Pot. The second goal was scored by Pot with an assist from Michael Lightning loses away to Lucknow Thursday, June 19, the Blyth Lightning played against the Lucknow Light Blue in Lucknow. With a couple of players on the injured list, the Lightning still showed that they had determina­ tion. Even though, at times, it was a rough game, the Lightning squad held off the Light Blue. Five minutes before the end of the first half the Lightning got the opportunity to score. Pursuant to Section 48 of The Municipal Act, 2001 the Council of the Township of North Huron hereby advises that it intends to name a private road within the municipality. Name Change: That portion of Diagonal Road between Victoria Street and John Street in the ward of Wingham changed to Veterans Road. Road Naming: The private road between Victoria Street and John Street immediately to the west of F.E. Madill Secondary School in the ward of Wingham named Madill Drive. The municipal road between Blyth Road (County Road 25) and the Blyth Campgrounds in the Ward of Blyth named Threshers Lane. North Huron Council shall consider a by-law to adopt these proposed changes at the July 7th Council Meeting. Written comments and/or oral presentations may be made to the Council in respect to the foregoing prior to the passage of the by-law. Running to home plate on Brussels 1 were Nathan Watson, Brody Tenpas, Kody Higgins, Kane White, Johnathon Blake (two) and Brock McLean (two). The final score was 7-7, no better way to end a game against schoolmates. Tuesday night Belgrave visited Brussels 2 and showed them what they had. Belgrave was not a team to be taken lightly, a team of small players who knew how to hit the ball and find the hole. However, terrific work on the McDowell. Excellent first-time backcatching was displayed by Terran DeLauria, McGavin and Matthew McNichol despite difficulties he had with the catcher’s mask. Many great plays were made by McGavin and Cousins to help slow down players in the final inn­ ing. Bringing in runs for Brussels 2 were DeLauria, W. Ducharme and Jeremy Ross. Despite the great effort put forth by all the players, Brussels 2 ran short by five runs, making the final score 8-3 for Belgrave. Brussels 2 Pre-Mites host Blyth next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. broke the 3 - 3 tie, ending the game at 4-3. The seventh game of the Thunder was played on June 17, at the arena soccer field, in Blyth against Goderich Canadian Tire. The game captain was centre defense, Jason Young. Goalkeepers were Kurtis Kolkman, McDowell and Pot. The Thunder was outplayed and defeated by the Goderich team. Blyth’s one and only goal was scored by Drost with an assist from McDowell and Boven. The team was glad to have Alex Raynard back in the game, after being off for two weeks with a sore ankle. CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF NORTH HURON TAXES DUE The second installment of taxes in the Township of North Huron is due Thursday, June 26, 2003. Interest at 1 1/4% per month, or any part thereof will be charged as of June 27, 2003. NOTE: Persons who have acquired properties and have not received a tax bill should contact the Municipal Office. Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve a taxpayer from responsibility for payment of taxes, nor from penalty for late payment. A post-dated cheque dated June 26, 2003 may be brought to the Treasury Department any time prior to the due date. Drop boxes for use after hours are located at the Wingham Town Hall and the Blyth Library. Please contact the Treasury Department in regards to the various payment options available.
