Nostalgia
opens
meeting
Belgrave WI president Kay
Roberts opened the meeting reading
Nostalgia. The minutes and
correspondence were read by
Doreen Marks.
Plans were discussed for cleaning
and waxing the floor and having the
porch roof repaired.
A report of the District annual
meeting of Huron West WI was
given by Audrey Fenton and the
financial report was read.
A Tweedsmuir workshop will be
held in Auburn on Aug. 5. Some
Belgrave members will attend.
Wilma Higgins is having the
programs printed for the coming
year.
The roll call was answered by 20
members telling their favourite
vegetable dish.
Program convenor, Dianna
Robinson introduced Helen Miller
who spoke about the Good Food
Box program of Huron County.
Most of the produce for the box is
bought from local farmers and the
contents vary according to the
seasons and what is available.
The box costs $12, paid in
advance, and the pick-up centres are
in Clinton and Exeter with
volunteers helping. Helen showed
the contents of a sample box and
picked the winner, Norma Moore.
Three lucky ladies, Sharon
Campbell, Laura Johnston and
Mary Hunter won a door prize of a
geranium plant.
A social time followed with lunch
served by Norma Moore and
Doreen Marks.
The next meeting will be on Sept.
16.

There were 12 tables of shoot in
play on Friday, June 20 in the
Community Centre.
Winners were: high lady, Lois
Chamney; second high lady, Jane
Grasby; most shoots, Doris Michie;
low lady, Mabel Wheeler; high
man, Lloyd Appleby; second high
man, Norma Strong; most shoots,
Alice Nicholson; low man, Laura
May Chamney.
The lucky draw winners were
Ada Taylor, Louise Schiestel, Ilene
Miller and Jim Coultes.
This was the last shoot party of
the season. Shoot will resume again
in September.

The members of the Afternoon
Unit of the Belgrave United Church
Women, together with some of the
Evening Unit members, met for their
monthly meeting in the church
schoolroom on June 10.
After welcoming everyone to the
meeting, Kay Roberts read a poem
entitled Beauty.
Jean Pattison conducted the
worship service, using compassion
as her theme.
Mrs. Roberts then introduced
Michelle Hanson of Goderich,
director of the Women’s Shelter,
second stage housing and
counselling services of Huron, as the
guest speaker for the meeting. Using
a question and answer format for her
presentation, she explained how

Lynn Johnston, an area author and illustrator, shared her
book The Dreaded Day with the primary classes at East
Wawanosh Public School. Johnston also explained the
process of putting together a children’s book as the school
held an authors’ day last Thursday. One child described her

Sunday school
hosts chicken
barbecue
The Sunday school of Knox
United Church in Belgrave hosted its
annual chicken barbecue on Sunday,
June 15. Sunday school students
took an active role in the service.
Guest storyteller Ron Baker from
Dyer Bay near Tobermory,
entertained the congregation with
two short stories. Another highlight
of the service was the baptism of
MacKenzie Muriel Wightman,
daughter of Alison and Brian
Wightman. Following the service, a
lunch of barbecued chicken was
enjoyed.

each of the provided services is
conducted.
Ms Hanson was thanked by
Audrey Fenton, who also presented
her with a gift. The members and
visitors had brought along numerous
items for the shelter, including
toiletries, paper products, knitted,
hand-embroidered and crocheted
items and also three hand-quilted
crib quilts.
Ms Hanson expressed her thanks
on behalf of the shelter residents and
assured everyone that each of the
items would be put to very good
use.
The meeting concluded with a
social time and lunch, hosted by Ada
Taylor, Audrey Fenton and Kay
Roberts.

the following offices:
REEVE 1 elected at large

COUNCILLOR - EAST WARD 3 to be elected
(East Ward comprised of the former Town of Clinton and Hullett Township in their entirety)
COUNCILLOR - WEST WARD 3 to be elected
(West Ward comprised of the former Goderich Township in its entirety)
may be made by completing and filing in the office of the Clerk, 23 Albert Street, Clinton, Ont. nominations on the
prescribed form. Such nomination papers must be accompanied by the prescribed nomination filing fee of $200.00
for the position of Reeve and $100.00 for the positions of Deputy Reeve and Councillor. The filing fee is payable by
cash, certified cheque or money order.
A nomination must be signed by the candidate and may be filed in person or by an agent during regular business
hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. up to September 25, 2003 and on ‘Nomination Day’ September 26, 2003 from 9:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
No person who proposes to be a candidate may solicit or accept contributions for election purposes; or incur
expenses, until that person’s nomination has been filed A nomination must be certified by the Clerk, or designate,
before such person becomes a certified candidate for the office for which they are nominated.
In the event there is an insufficient number of certified candidates to fill all positions available, nominations will be
reopened for the vacant positions only on Wednesday, October 1st, 2003 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00
p.m. and such additional requirements, if required, may be filed in the office of the Clerk.
Electors are hereby given notice that if a greater number of candidates are certified than are required to fill the said
offices; an election will be aeld. Voting Day will be Monday, November 10, 2003.

Contest winner
Vice-president of MADD Huron/Bruce, Jim Dore, recently
surprised Christina Eckert in her Blyth Public School
classroom. Eckert won second place in the 2002 MADD
poster contest in the age 10 and under category. Eckert
