Order of Eastern Star celebrate 81st birthday On Tuesday, June 10 Huron Chapter No 89 Order of the Eastern Star, celebrated the 81st anniversary of its foundation in Wingham, at the Masonic Hall. The celebrations were graced by the surprise presence of Sister Ev. Beacock, Past Grand Matron and Brother Mike Beacock, Past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Ontario. Other visitors came from as far away as Madoc to share and enjoy the good humour and companionship of the local members. Entertainment was provided by Sister Joyce Miller of Wingham and Brother, the Rev. Jeff Hawkins of Wroxeter. In this, its 81st year, Huron Chapter has already provided hundreds of caps, mittens and slippers for the Salvation Army Warm Heads, Hands and Feet programme and will have many afghans and lapghans ready for those who need them next winter. The Chapter also expects to donate a piece of equipment to the Wingham and District Cancer Care Centre later this year as a result of the Worthy Matron’s Project.
