A $250,000 renovation of the
Huron County council chamber will
begin shortly after council’s July
meeting with plans to have the new
chambers ready for the September
meeting, the first meeting after the
summer break.
A contract for $141,750, $8,000
under the projected costs for this
portion of the work, was approved at
the June 5 meeting of council.
Chamney Contracting of London
will do the work which includes
mechanical changes to the heating
and air-conditioning systems to
provide separate circulation to the
council chambers and a nearby
courtroom. Project co-ordinator
Claus Breede estimated these
changes would amount to about
$30,000- $35,000 of the total bill.
He was replying to Bill Dowson,
Bluewater councillor, who asked for
the breakdown because “some
people think we’re spending all that
money in here.”
Breede said a new sound system
will be installed and
desks built. New
councillors and the
already been ordered
saving from the original estimate, he
said.
