Blyth Swinging Seniors are invited to Londesborough for a supper meeting on June 25 at 6 p.m. in the Londesborough Hall. Trinity Anglican celebrated its 125th anniversary Sunday, June 15, Father’s Day with a full house. Many friends, family and neighbours helped to make this a great day. Bishop Bruce Howe gave the blessing and had a sermon on changes and how something as simple as a potluck meal can bring people together and give them a chance to worship. People came from as far away as St. Thomas, Tillsonburg, Bolton, London, Chesley, Uxbridge, Thamesford, Kitchener, Windsor, Dutton and Salt Spring Island, B.C. Also celebrated was the confirmation of Ashley Cartwright by Bishop Bruce Howe. She had family from both sides of her family present. A light lunch followed the service and gave friends and family a chance to visit and catch up on what has been happening in their lives. Greeting at Blyth United Church Sunday, June 8 were Lois van Vliet and Dianna Campbell. Ushering was Elaine Brown. Guest musician was Margaret Kai. Cheryl Cronin and Avon Corneil sang a duet Near to the Heart of God. The children’s hymn was Tell Me the Stories of Jesus. The children gathered at the front of the church for the story of how Father’s Day came about. Sonora Smart Dodd was the daughter of a farmer. Her mother died when she was young and her father raised six children. She thought that there should be a service to honour all fathers including hers. In 1910 there was a church service for all fathers. Rev. Eugen Bannerman challenged the children to think of something their father had done for them and to say thank you. The drama club presented a pageant for Father’s Day. Judy Brown presented an appreciation award to Deb Hakkers for always being there as a member of the church, a teacher and a superintendent of Sunday school. The children were given out awards during Sunday school. The gospel reading was taken from Mark 5: 21-24, 35-43. Rev. Bannerman’s message to the adults was A Father’s Plea: Come Heal My Daughter.
