Yes, I think it’s true. We have
summer. The warmth and sun of
Saturday and Sunday were enough
to improve the mood of a whole
community and it was wonderful to
watch.

Besides the birds and lawn
mowers, the noises of the weekend
included several different types of
aircraft which caught the attention of
those outside. The annual fly-in at
the Armstrong aerodrome is a time
to admire the many different
airplanes that attend. For the village
it is a great time to watch the planes
arrive and it was fun to see some
that last exam or just
getting, ready for the
of their lives. To each of

loops and rings. Jim and Leona have
been enjoying this event for several
years now.
Tradition dictated that Ester
and Jack McCutcheon play host
last weekend to a group which
has gathered every year since
1976. The wardens from the
Counties of Bruce, Grey, Lambton,
Simcoe and Huron met initially
in their official capacities in
1976, and with their partners
started to meet socially the next
year. As the years have passed
each couple takes their turn to
provide a new experience as well as
the expected good food and
perpetual card games. The ice
business in Hensail was well
received as the tour and pictures of
their ice sculptures made a very
good impression on the visiting past
wardens.

As an added attraction, neighbour

their equipment of various types

By Jo-Ann McDonald
Around 40 bidders registered for
the silent auction at the Brussels
Legion on Friday evening and
vowed to return Saturday. The doors
opened at 10 a.m. Saturday for the
day’s viewing of over 150 items on
display. There was a steady stream
of bidders with over 70 registered
patrons. There was no live auction
held due to lack of participants so
those items were opened up to silent
bidding. There was a flurry of last
minute bids until 4 p.m.
Wishes for speedy healing to
Comrade Eric Ross who underwent
knee surgery last week. He’s slowly
but surely getting around.
We are sorry to hear Stuart
Musgrove is in hospital and we hope
he’s feeling better real soon.
The Friday night supper of lasagna
was enjoyed by around 30. Next
week is roast beef.
The Branch needs a dehumidifier
or two for downstairs. If anyone has
one they don’t need, we could
provide a home for it at the Legion.
A photocopier is also needed. The
Branch copier is looking at major
repairs and a good secondhand one
is being sought. Anyone with
knowledge about one can call the
Branch.
This Sunday, June 22 is cemetery
decoration service. Representatives
of the local churches will also be in
attendance to pay tribute to those
who have passed on.
The service begins at 2 p.m. with
the pipe band and parade
participants forming up at the back
of the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.

Comrades are urged to attend.
The Branch has been booked for
three fish frys for July and we could

help us out. Please contact the
Branch for the dates and if you
would be interested in helping.

held the June meeting in the form of
a tour beginning at 10:30 a.m. on
Wednesday, June 11 under the
leadership of Yvonne Knight. There
were 11 ladies on tour.
The first stop was at Joe and Barb
Terpstra’s dairy barn which was
quite interesting.
The group had lunch at
Brubachers of Ethel Restaurant and
Bakery, then visited Shayrina Sheep
Farm, owned by Kevin and Jacquie
Bishop. They saw several different
breeds of sheep. While at Bishops’
they had a short meeting. The roll
call was answered by naming an
agricultural practice not used today.
It was decided to have two
casserole suppers and two soup and
sandwich lunches followed by
euchre instead of monthly euchre
parties.
