The Citizen, 2003-06-11, Page 13Rev. Ted Nelson leads service FROM AUBURN At Knox United Church Rev. Ted Nelson’s message related to Pentecost Sunday and was entitled the Holy Spirit. The junior choir, under the direction of Shelley Worsell, sang Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam. The House Band, also given the name The Saratoga Saints, entered. Those with special talents are Ernie Durnin, (mouth organ), Bert Moss, Heather Durnin and her two sons Marshall and Ethan, who played the fiddles and Nancy Park who accompanied on piano. Shelley Worsell’s expertise showed with her junior choir, who sang their little hearts out. Wonderful work. Downstairs after the service there was a special guest. Bugsy, the Clown excited the kids, as usual, with fun, games and treats. Andy Lubbers has returned home after his trip to Saint John, New Brunswick, where he attended the Canadian national dart 4-H meets The second meeting of the Wawanosh Mixers was held on May 30 at June Robinson’s. The members brought muffins they had made at home from the 4-H recipe book. The types included berry, peanut butter and jam. bran, and cheese. Roll call was answered with the name of their favourite muffin and telling of any problems they encountered while making their muffins. Members talked about possible substitutions of ingredients that can be made to muffins. Members then judged three different plates of bran muffins,purchased mix, the bake shop muffins and the muffins the 4- H members made at home. They considered appearance, texture and taste. Most members placed the prepared muffins mix first and the bake shop muffins last. Next they divided the members’ muffins into quarters and everyone had a chance to try the various kinds. They noted in their books what muffins they would like to try at home. all the input she has made for church school this past year. This noble work does not go unnoticed. Sunday school teachers Shirley Andrews and Patti Cronin presented the following children with attendance diplomas and seals: first- year-diploma, Owen Andrew; third- year seal, Josie Andrews, Danielle Bean; fourth-year seal, Alex Harman, Zach Harman, Marshall Durnin, Ethan Durnin; fifth-year seal, Shelsie Popp, Janette Plaetzer, Caroline McDowell, Lauren Cronin; sixth-year seal, Adam Cronin, Jamie Plaetzer; seventh-year seal, Jeff Plaetzer; eighth-year seal, Michael McDowell, Shawna Popp; lOth-year seal, Katie McClinchey, Johnathon McDowell. Rev. Nelson thanked the teachers for their dedication and Katie McClinchey presented them with a token of appreciation. Twenty-four musically-talented young people showcased those talents at Hullett Central Public School the evening of June 4. These Londesboro and area youth are the music pupils of Barb Bosman. Barb teaches piano from the beginner stages to Grade 8 including theory lessons. Young people from age 6-17 tinkled the ivories for proud parents, grandparents and friends. As Barb also does some vocal coaching the evening’s program featured some singing. Clinton’s Romijn family are Ms Bosman’s pupils and they entertained with jigs and reels on their fiddles and keyboard. Barb teaches many of her pupils at the Hullett school. The Londesboro Lions Olde Tyme Country Breakfast is Sunday. Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes and homefrieswill all be part of the menu at the Londesboro Community Hall. This coming Friday, June 13 will be the last garbage pickup handled by the Municipality of Central Huron. As of Monday, Chamney Sanitation will be responsible for garbage collection. Bag tags for this service will be available at Today’s General Store at a cost of $2 each. Collection day will now be Wednesdays. championship as a member of Team Ontario. In the red It was a red letter day, well sort of, when members of the Exeter/Bayfield branch of The Red Hat Society enjoyed an adventure in Blyth June 2. The group enjoyed a lunch at the Blyth Inn, in honour of Effie McCall, Blyth Red Hat Lady. The Society, according to its website is for women who have decided to greet middle age with “verve, humour and elan”.
