Ivy Cloakey read scripture from John 6. The King of Love My Shepherd Is was the hymn. Alice Nicholson read a story on sharing using the miracle of the loaves and fishes as an example. Mrs. Siertsema gave the secretary’s report and Mrs. Cloakey gave the treasurer’s report. Roll call was answered by naming a favourite flower. Members are invited to Wingham on June 17 at 8 p.m. The next meeting is Aug. 11. Mrs. Siertsema read a poem In Lilac Time and Beryl McGowe read Apple Blossoms. The hymn Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee was read. 6 tables in play at euchre There were six tables of euchre in play at the Women’s Institute Hall on Wednesday, June 4. Winners were: high lady, Jane Grasby; second high lady, Shirley Hopper; lone hands, Mary Caslick; novelty prize, Iyla Elliott; high man, George Inglis; second high man, Stuart Chamney; lone hands, Allan Edgar; novelty prize, Wilfred Caslick. There is euchre again on Wednesday, June 11 at 8 p.m. The Evening Unit of the Belgrave United Church Women met at the home of Jane Grasby on Tuesday evening, June 3. Norma Moore opened with worship and she used as her theme, A Cup of Cold Water. Mabel Wheeler read the scripture from Matthew where Jesus tells them that “Whoever gives even a drink of cold water to one of the least of these my followers, because he is my follower, will certainly receive his reward.” Mrs. Moore’s meditation was on the importance of a cold drink of water, receiving that cold water, an doing good to others, then she read the poem, I’m Drinking From My Saucer, Because My Cup is Overflowing. Sheila Nixon introduced guest speaker Susan Pegg, who had asked everyone to bring their favourite cup and saucer to the meeting. She read from a book If a Tea Pot Could Talk, and from the Purpose Driven Life. She also read the poem, You Are Who You Are. During the evening everyone showed their teacup and told of why it was special to them. Several announcements were made. The evening group is invited to the Afternoon Unit on Tuesday, June 10. Campsite Day for the Presbyterial UCW is Monday, June 9 at Camp Bimini. Plans were made for the Over 80 birthday party to be held July 23 at 2 p.m. The September meeting will be at the home of Freda Johnston. Girls get athletic honour Three Belgrave and area girls are sharing F.E. Madill’s top female athlete award after being honoured recently at the annual athletic banquet. Because of the double cohort, more student/athletes are graduating from school this year, thus it was decided that three Madill athletes would share the award, something the school has never done before. Kristyn Gerth is a skilled competitor in basketball, volleyball, and track and field. Laura Meier participates in school sports throughout the seasons, cross­ country in the fall, volleyball in the winter, and track and field in the Way to go These four area F.E. Madill Secondary School athletes travelled to St. Catharines for the OFSAA track and field meet and placed within the top five. (Sarah Mann photo) The family of Bill and Muriel Coultes of Belgrave held an open house on Sunday, June 1 in honour of their 45th wedding anniversary. Many friends and relatives arrived from Killaloe, Stratford, London, Exeter, Kitchener, Southampton, Brampton, Georgetown, Owen Sound, Auburn, Mitchell, Teeswater, Lucan, Molesworth, Clinton, Blyth, Wingham and the community of Belgrave. Over 80 family members, members of the wedding party and long-time friends enjoyed a potluck dinner following the open house. Congratulations are extended from the community. The canvass for the Cancer Society in Belgrave and surrounding community was very successful again this year. A sum of $3,769.75 wat> donated toward this important cause. Many thanks to the volunteers and those who contributed. Helen Stonehouse recently returned home after being a patient in Wingham and District Hospital. The community wishes Helen a speedy recovery. Congratulations to Ross and Mary Procter who recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family Huron Wescast Complex. While at Madill, Meier has competed in the 100 and 200 metre sprints, the sprint hurdles and the 400 metre hurdles, as well as the long jump, triple jump, the 4-by-100 and the 4-by-400 relays. She even took up the javelin this year. Amanda Palmeralso keeps herself busy through every season by running cross-country in the fall, skate-skiing in the winter, and competing on the track and field team in the spring. In all sportsj Palmer has advanced to WOSSA and, on four occasions, represented Madill at the All­ Ontario nordic ski championships. RACING RETURNS! TOWNSEND-O'REILLY Charlene Roseanne Townsend and James Francis O'Reilly were married on June 15, 2002 at Northside United Church, Seaforth. Charlene is the daughter of George and Ruth Townsend, Seaforth and Jim is the son of John and Margaret O'Reilly, Mitchell. Jim and Charlene's attendants were matron of honour Jennifer Elliott, honorary matron of honour Ruth Town.send, bridesmaids Aimee Townsend, Michelle Gross, Sandra McCarthy and Carolyn Houben, best man Tom O'Reilly, groomsmen Terry Kelly, Jason Schoonderwoerd, Matt Townsend, Murray Townsend, Kevin Cardno and Mike Murray. Readers were Dennis O'Reilly and Stephanie Kelly. Soloist was Diane Skinn and pianist was Carol Carter. Rev. Sheila Macgregor and Father Lance Magdziak officiated the marriage. Photography was by Tracy Lee. The reception was held at the Seaforth District Community Centre and the couple honeymooned in Holguin, Cuba.
