Brussels Midget girls’ ball season underway
The Brussels Midget girls fastball
team has started another season. In
the lineup this year: Lesley Pepper,
Catrina Josling, Katherine Cameron,
Heather Little, Lacey McCall,
Rachel Speers, Candice Ross, Jenna
Fischer, Ashley Keffer, Cindi
Stevenson, Katie Aitchison, Sarah
10 teams in tourney
Ten teams of enthusiastic lawn
bowlers competed in the Brussels
Club’s first tournament of the year,
Thursday, June 5. The tournament
was sponsored jointly by Maitland
Valley Financial Consultants (Susan
Alexander) and Brussels Agri
Services. In spite of the intermittent
drizzle, competition was keen.
Winners were: first, Gerry Doney
and Mickey Kuindersma, Stratford,
three wins, 43; second, Terry
Gardiner and Sharon Farrish,
London, two wins, 39; third, Stanley
and Beatrice Mayhew, New
Hamburg, two wins, 37; fourth,
Doug Newman and Barbara Carbert,
Wingham, two wins, 34; fifth,
Murray Walker and Dorcas Debus,
U-9s lose
Monday, June 2, the Brussels U-9
soccer team travelled to Jacksonville
Park in Listowel.
In the first half Patti Blake made
some great defensive plays to stop
the strong Listowel offence.
Anthony Lichti played goal and
worked to get the ball in the other
end. The ball was moved up the field
several times by Jeremy Ross who
wound his way up through his
opponents. Despite Brussels’
efforts, however, Listowel scored
just seconds before the end of the
first half.
During the second half, Listowel
dominated. Only near the end of the
game did Brussels get some scoring
chances as they became more
aggressive with their ball handling.
Listowel won the game 5-0.
Brussels is home for the next six
games on Monday nights at 7 p.m. at
the Brussels Public School.
Stratford, two wins, 29; consolation,
George and Doris Ca.itelon, Clinton.
The next tournament in Brussels
will be July 3 starting at 6 p.m.
McDonald, Candice McClellan,
Melissa Souch. Coaching the squad
are Sandra Josling, Sandra Pepper
and Nicole Lowe.
Brussels played its first game of
the season in Crediton on June 1.
Pepper was on the mound with nine
strikeouts. The Crediton team had a
strong offensive with 11 hits.
Brussels struggled back with hits
from McCall, Aitchison and Josling.
The final score saw the Brussels
team losing 15-2.
Brussels was back on the field on
Monday, June 2 playing host to
Holmesville. Pepper pitched a strong
game with nine strikeouts. Katie
Aitchison started the first Brussels
rally getting on with an error.
McCall waited out a walk and
singles by Little and McDonald
brought in three runs for Brussels.
Another rally in the second inning
with a hit from Keffer brought the
total to seven. Brussels was shut out
at the plate for the next four innings
leaving three runners on base.
The final score was a win 7-3.

Brussels squad was on Monday, June
9 against St. Pauls. The Brussels
home game schedule is Sunday, June
22 at 8 p.m. against Crediton;
Monday, June 23 at 9 p.m. against
Hibbert; Monday, June 30 at 9 p.m.
against Listowel; Sunday, July 6 at 8
p.m. against Listowel; Sunday, July
13 at 8 p.m. against Fullarton;
Sunday, July 22 at 8 p.m. against
Fullarton.

The Municipality of Morris-Turnberry is hosting a “Large Item Pickup”
or “Treasure Swap” Day for all of the residents with regular curbside
pickup on
FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 2003
If you have any large items you would like to give away or dispose of,
set them out at the curb by 9:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2003.
Please identify items that are available to be “swapped” by tying a
piece of material on them. Any person looking for items must
remember that only the items identified with a piece of material are
available for taking. The Municipality is not responsible for items
accidentally removed by error, so all residents should ensure that all
items are correctly labelled or removed from the area.
Any items not “swapped” by Saturday, will be collected by Canadian
Waste Services on
SATURDAY MORNING - JUNE 14, 2003
commencing at 9 a.m. and transferred to the landfill site. If you wish to
save any item not taken on Friday, please remove them from the curb
before 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Items that are available for collection are:
• Household furniture
• Appliances
• Barbecues
• Rototillers or other gardening tools
• Lawn mowers
• Lawn chairs and tables
• Clothing
• Refrigerators, freezers or air conditioners - only with a
“Freon-Free” sticker.
The following items WILL NOT be picked up:
• Regular household garbage
• Recycling materials
• Construction or demolition debris
• Tires
• Agricultural waste
