FROM BLYTH
Training
centre
a step
closer
The new fire training centre of the
Blyth and District Fire Department is
one step closer to reality after a
zoning amendment was approved by
county council at its June 5 meeting.
The six-acre site, being leased by
North Huron from Sparling’s
Propane Company Ltd., required a
change in the Central Huron zoning
bylaw to allow development of the
location with a 33-foot training tower
and eventually, a new fire hall for the
Blyth department.

Congratulations to David and
Annie Sparling on the birth of their
second son.
Congratulations to the
congregation of Trinity Anglican
Church as they celebrate the 125th
anniversary of the church on June
15. There will be special guests
including the bishop at the 10:30
a.m. service. Please note the change
of time.
Many relatives, friends and
neighbours gathered at the home of
Roger and Donna Bieman to help
Roger celebrate his 60th birthday
and also to help Susan, their
daughter celebrate her graduation as
a teacher.
Glad to hear that Lynn Logue is
home from hospital and feeling
some better.
Sorry to hear that Alvin Snell was
a patient in Clinton hospital and we
wish him a speedy recovery.
Greeting at Blyth United Church
Sunday, June 8 were Lois van Vliet
and Lorna Fraser. Ushering was
Elaine Brown. Guest musician was
Lynda Lentz-McGregor. The choir
sang As a Fire is Meant for Burning.
The children’s hymn was Jesus Bids
Us Shine.
The dramatized lectionary reading
was from Genesis 1, The Seven
Days of Creation. Those taking part
were Amelia Carter-Brown and
Brandilyn, Amanda and Wyatt
Bearss.
The responsive reading was Psalm
8. Rev. Eugen Bannerman’s
message to the adults was The Quiet
Spirituality of Jane Goodall. She’s
leading a environmentalist, a devout
Christian who was raised in the
Congregation church of England and
who feels strongly that God has
given her a message for our
time.
For 30 years Dr. Goodall studied
the chimpanzees of Africa, naming
them all human names such as a
David, Goliath, Flo and so on. She
found they had human emotions.
People have 98.5 per cent of their
genes in common with chimps. Also
a chimp blood transfusion can save a
human life.
She travels 300 days a year
speaking to groups, one of those
being at Ryerson University in
Toronto.
In her biography Reason for Hope
she tells of her belief in God. There
were times when her belief wavered.
Dr. Goodall overcame her dark
periods of doubt and remains
optimistic about the future.
As she read the Bible she wrote
favourite verses on small pieces of
paper and kept them in a box which
she still has. Dr. Goodall believes
she has a message to give to young
people through lectures. Sunday was
Environment Sunday and each
person can make a difference, said
Rev. Bannerman.
