LeVan will be forever remembered in Wingham. While hundreds gathered at the North Huron-Wescast Community Complex to say good-bye to the long-time head of Wescast Industries Inc. last Saturday, North Huron council ensured LeVan’s name will be remembered for generations to come. At the May 20 council meeting, the township agreed to rename the airport to the Richard W. LeVan Airport - Wingham after a community group made the recommendation to council. The committee, made up of community members and Wescast representatives, wanted to ensure Richard LeVan be recognized for his major contribution to the region. Questions were asked about the construction of Holmes Line and the rehabilitation of Woolcock Pit. *** Quotes will be received for a two tonne truck. Trucks purchased by the municipality will be white. Specifications will be investigated for a tandem truck. *** The speed limit for McCrea Street in Belgrave, between Corbett Drive and King Street will be 40 km/hr. The motion was passed in reference to an entrance permit application.*** Large item pick-up will be initiated for urban areas with curbside pick-up June 13 and 14.*** Council will increase their support of graduates from F. E. Mad-ill Secondary School in Wingham by increasing award numbers for the double co-hort year only.*** Public Works Co-ordinator Barry O’Krafka was to ask the road crew if they wanted to enter the Wroxeter outhouse races on May 31.*** Support was given to a resolution from the Municipality of Chatham- Kent regarding criminals and first degree murder. (Anyone who needs to have volunteer hours for school is welcomed). On Wednesday, May 21 the Silver Tops of Auburn went to Anna Mae’s in Millbank for lunch. After the lunch the Seniors toured the Millbank Family Furniture Store, where they saw handcrafted furniture, quilts, and crafts created by the Mennonites: Some went to the Atwood cheese factory, Campbells soup store and Tim Hortons. The Thursday Coffee Club met at Stickers last Thursday. They missed 4-Hers mix it up The 4-H Wawanosh Mixers met for the project Batters-Up at June Robinson’s. Meeting one was measure up. For the roll call members were asked to identify a large assortment of baking utensils and tell of their use. Some of the members were uncertain of the pastry blender, bundt pan and layer cake pans. Leader, Mary Ellen Foran had two quizzes, one on ingredients and how they work, the other on matching a description of a baked product to the name. We also extend our sincere appreciation to all Volunteers who assisted with screening duty at the door. Effective May 16th, restrictions have now been eased. Visiting hours have been revised: now daily from 11:30 - 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a limit of 2 visitors per patient at any one time. Hospice of Huron - Annual Hospice Walk thanks to all who walked or made pledges in memory of a loved one or in honour of a family member or friend on Sunday May 4th, in excess of $3500.00 was raised for the betterment of Hospice Palliative Care in our community. Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop - while in visiting a patient or for an appointment, why not stop in and check out the many new items for sale in the Gift Shop - there are many wonderful ideas for anyone.
