Brussels Livestock report
350 cows on offer, selling to $84
Total receipts for the week ending
May 16 were 3,024 head of cattle,
591 lambs and goats. On Tuesday
the fed steers and heifers sold at
prices $2 higher. The cows traded on
a steady market. On Thursday the
veal sold on a strong active trade
while the lambs sold at steady prices
on an active trade. On Friday the
calves sold on a steady market with
the yearlings selling at prices $2 to
$3 higher.
There were 546 steers on offer
selling from $105 to $110 with sales
to $123. Larry Ryan, Crediton,
consigned one limousin steer
weighing 1,400 lbs. which sold to
Holly Park Meat Packers for $123.
His overall offering of forty steers
averaged 1,511 lbs. which sold for
an average price of $115.19. One
limousin steer consigned by Tom
Triebner, Exeter, weighed 1,200 lbs.
selling to Norwich Packers for $122.
His overall offering of forty-eight
steers averaged 1,412 lbs. selling for
an average price of $112.32.

4-IIers talk sheep nutrition

On Wednesday, May 14 the North
Huron 4-H Sheep Club held its
second meeting. The basic nutrition
and marketing of sheep was
discussed.
It was stressed that nutrition is one
of the most important parts of a
successful sheep operation, and
well-balanced diets are essential.

the club about ruminant (sheep) and
monogastric (human) digestive

Next the club discussed different
ways to market sheep. Products that
sheep produce, which can be
marketed, include meat, wool, milk,
sheepskins and non-carcass parts.
Marg explained how there isn’t a
great amount of money in the sheep
business and producers should
promote the business on their own.
Ways of doing this include, having
lamb for dinner when friends come
over, and being creative with all the
1,465 lbs. selling for $116.25.
There were 264 heifers on offer
selling from $105 to $110 with sales
to $118.25. Muxlea Farms,
Woodstock, consigned one limousin
heifer weighing 1,310 lbs. which
sold to Norwich Packers for
$118.25. Their overall offering of
fifteen heifers averaged 1,302 lbs.
