Masons lead service
at United Church
FROM LQNDESBORO
Chapel
hosts
sermon
in
Goderich
The Fellowship Bible Chapel
moved into the former Hullett Twp.
office building last October. In
recent weeks members of this
church group have been
introducing themselves to villagers
just to say hello.
This group, along with hosts,
Craig and Traci St. Clair, have
sponsored a Sermon on the Mount
in Goderich for this Saturday, May
10 from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Lew
Sterrett is a God-loving cowboy
from Pennsylvania who combines
his Christian faith and love of
horses in a unique ministry.
Lew demonstrates with his horses
that the relationship between a man
and his horses is typical of the
relationship between God and man.
There is no admission for this event
which is open to all ages at the
Goderich arena grandstand.
For more information contact a
church leader.
Boil mater
advisory
for Blyth
A boil water advisory is in effect
in Blyth until further notice.
The health unit informed residents
that the advisory would begin May
5.
Upgrades are required to the Blyth
water system in order for North
Huron to comply with the certificate
of approval. The water reservoir has
been taken out of service and a
temporary water supply system
connected to the water distribution
system.
This system has a limited
pumping capacity, thus water
conservation is required.
The health unit issued the boil
water advisory, not because of
adverse water quality but as a
precaution while upgrades are being
completed.
Residents are advised to boil
water for one minute before using to
drink; gargle or brush teeth; wash
foods; make juices, ice or puddings,
etc.; make baby food or formula.
Washing, bathing, showering,
laundry, dishwashing can be carried
out as usual.
Approximately 40 members of the
North Huron District of the Order of
Masons were on hand at Londesboro
United Church on May 4 for their
annual Masonic service. The North
Huron District extends from
Londesboro in the south to
Kincardine and Tiverton in the
north.
Ron Shelley, North Huron District
chaplain, conducted the service.
During their time at the front, the
children were read a story by Mr.
Shelley about a gift given by a
young girl to her father. The empty
box had been filled with love and
kisses. That precious box proves all
can learn something from our
children.
District Master Sam Dougherty,
led the responsive reading of Psalm
25, a prayer by David for protection.
Worshipful Master of Hullett Lodge,
Ed Salverda read the New
Testament lesson from John 12: 1-8.
This was the story of Christ’s meal
with Mary and Martha and the basis
for Mr. Shelley’s message.
Following Christ’s walk to
Lazarus’ home with His disciples,
He was refreshed with food
prepared by Martha and the washing
of His tired, dusty feet by Mary.
Mary was criticized for her actions
but, as Mr. Shelley pointed out,
Mary’s actions were evidence of her
insight into Christ and His ministry.
The men’s choir sang Freedom
Land and Song of Freedom.
Churchgoers were greeted with
coffee, juice and muffins offered by
Nick and Joan Whyte.
Londesboro United Church will
hold the sacrament of baptism on
Mother’s Day, May 11, Christian
Family Sunday. The senior choir
will practise at 10 a.m.
The next board meeting will be
held on Tuesday, May 20 beginning
at 7:30 p.m. Members of the board
are asked to pick up minutes from
the last meetings for advance
perusal. They are available in the
narthex of the church.
PEOPLE AROUND
LONDESBORO
That was a welcome dusting off
the village got last Tuesday thanks
to the work crew from Central
Huron. Now the strollers will push
more soothingly and the in-line
skat.es and skateboards will run
easier. Free of winter’s sand and salt
the grass at road edges will green up
nicely.
Thinking of spring cleaning! Isn’t
it amazing how a little warm
sunshine and green grass brings out
the urge to purge from closets,
cupboards and basements? If
you’ve got boxes of treasures to
share, are you thinking about a yard
sale? The May 24 weekend has
often been yard sale time for our
village. If you and/or your
neighbour are considering having a
yard/garage sale, let me know and
I’ll spread the word. Sometimes one
sale spawns a second, and so on.
That Saturday is just 10 days away.
Local Lions speak
at Seniors’ meeting
The Londesboro Happy Gang
Seniors held their April gathering at
the Londesboro Community Hall on
Wednesday, April 30.
Following their noon potluck
meal the members welcomed guest
speaker, Allan Bosman and Keith
Allen representing the Londesboro
Lions Club. The men thanked the
seniors’ group for their ongoing
financial support of the Community
Hall. The largest community donor
to the hall is the seniors’ group.
The two Lions gave a brief history
of the work their group has done to
the building since they reached an
agreement with the municipality to
oversee this community landmark.
Recent contributions by the seniors
assisted with new soffit, fascia and
eavestroughing.
Improving the entranceways is the
next project to be undertaken by the
Lions Club.
Blyth Seniors will host the zone 8
fall rally on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Phyllis Tyndall will be the
Londesboro delegate at the annual
convention in Toronto Aug. 11-13.
Her husband, Keith, is the
representative for the zone.
The seniors will meet again on
Wednesday, May 28.

Brief visit
Former Blyth resident, Captain Shane Loder, son of Keith
and Linda Loder, flew into Goderich airport recently
aboard a Hercules aircraft. Loder and his crew were
bringing replacement parts for a Labrador helicopter
which had stopped in Goderich earlier as part of a training
session. Loder, based in Trenton, has been with the
Canadian Air Force for almost six years and is part of the
search and rescue squad. He gave his parents a quick
call before heading to Goderich so they could have a visit
before he returned home. (Signal star photo)
