The Citizen, 2003-02-26, Page 12PAGE 12. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2003. FROM BELGRAVE WI, guests enjoy potluek WI members and friends gathered on Tuesday, Feb. 18 for a potluck meal. They were welcomed by the president, Isabel Campbell. The program was a slide show and talk given by Professor Wm. Andrews of Toronto and Mamoch. He had pictures of his property in Toronto where he has converted much of his lawn into flowerbeds and rock gardens. The plants require a minimum of care because they are growing densely and are mostly perennials. He avoids using fertilizer and weed spray to cut down on pollution, and mulches the soil to retain the moisture. Many wild animals and birds are attracted to the yard and bees and butterflies are supplied with nectar. He was thanked for his presentation by Ada Taylor. During the business meeting the forms were handed out for annual reports from the officers. It was agreed to give a donation to the school fair. A letter was read asking everyone to look for a brand of tea and coffee which is produced by small landowners in the Third World. The next potluck will be on Tuesday, March 4 at noon with a speaker from Palliative Care. 9 tables in play at euchre There were nine tables of euchre in play at the Women’s Institute Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 19. Meagan Pletch and Megan Carter were greeters at Knox United Church on Sunday, Feb. 23. Rev. Ethel Miner Clare welcomed the congregation followed by the singing of hymns accompanied by Elizabeth Procter. The senior choir sang His Grace is Sufficient For Me accompanied by Mrs. Procter. The responsive reading was taken from Psalm 41. The children’s hymn was This is God’s Wondrous World. The children gathered in the front pew for story time. Last Sunday Rev. Miner Clare had given each of the children some homework on how they share peace. They each had drawings illustrating peace such as sharing with friends, hugging, kissing, and loving one another. We need to say “yes” to God. Everyone of God’s promises is a yes. The scripture lessons were taken from Isaiah 43: 18-25, 2 Corinthians 1: 18-22, and Mark 2: 1-12. The sermon was based on the scripture lessons. Crowds of people went to see Jesus and listen to him teach and heal the sick people. One day, when Jesus was teaching inside a house many people came to see him, so that the house was full. Four men came with their friend who couldn’t walk. They had to carry him on a bed. They couldn’t get to Jesus as the house was too full. They carried their friend up on the roof, made an opening in the tiles and let him down on his bed into the middle of the group in front of Jesus. When Jesus saw how much faith they had, he said to the men, “Your sins are forgiven, my friend.” He said Get up and walk” and the man got up and walked. Ellen Procter and Amanda Dorsch took up the offering. The flowers at the front of the sanctuary were placed by the families of Margaret Taylor in loving memory. The World Day of Prayer service will be held on Friday, March 7 at 2 p.m. in Knox United Church. This year’s service is written by the women of Lebanon.
