News from the Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The week has been very quiet at
the Brussels Legion Branch.
The Cadets met as usual on
Tuesday night to review their
weekend camping experience.
The Thursday night darts had only
eight players taking aim. The first-
place team was
John Harrison,
team was Julie
Kamerman. The
points was shot by Sandra Josling.
The Friday night supper of
Salisbury Steak was enjoyed by a
good crowd. This week is roast pork.
A reminder to all to keep saving the
pop tabs. They go toward the
purchase of wheelchairs.
The cooking bee is set for March 9

The curlers in our midst have been
in their glory the past week as the
Tournament of Hearts from
Kitchener was being televised.
Thirty-seven curlers and
“wannabees” went to the source by
bus last Wednesday. In Kitchener
they enjoyed the thrill of the game,
met the great Canadian curler Guy
Hemmings and enjoyed the food and
fellowship of other curlers gathered
in support of the game.
In celebration of winter last
Saturday we went to see the movie
Chicago in Waterloo. Just to let you
know this really is newsworthy,
Ralph thinks the last time he went to
the movies was to see On Golden
Pond in the early 1980s. Thank
goodness it was very good and that
was a four out of four opinion so
perhaps we may go again in this
decade.
I just love tidbits that agree with
my thinking. The cardiac folks are
recommending that we eat butter in
sensible amounts as compared with
margarine of any kind. The
reasoning is the body is better suited
to digest natural foods as compared
to synthetic. Sounds good to me.
Now if some of the other advice and
research would be that clear. Once
again it comes back to us and the
need to keep healthy. Use common

Next Friday evening at Duff’s
United Church is World Day of

speak about the Food Grains Bank
and all the good work that is done
on our behalf in the global
community by this organization.
Cail a friend - you’ll be glad you
did.
