They also saw the island of Tobago, some of its resorts and the Barbados. They were two days at sea and enjoyed a great week of hot weather. There were lots of people from the area who travelled to Kitchener to see the Scott Tournament of Hearts Ladies Curling Championships at the auditorium on the weekend. Rick and I were down on Saturday and we saw Brad Speiran, Ross Veitch, Pauline Patterson, and Rick Knight. On Sunday, Mary Bernard went with me and we met many of those same faces as well as Leslie Knight, Bill, Marjorie, Paul and Peggy Humphries. I’m sure there were lots of others but with 2,500 to 3,300 spectators for the games we probably missed a few familiar faces. Murray and Janice Sholdice welcomed a new baby boy, Matthew George into their family. His brother Jackson is thrilled. They live in London but keep in touch with family connections in Walton. The Jim McDonald family travelled to Sarnia for the weekend as Sarah played hockey there. The team won two games and lost two games but all were very close. The final game they played against Mitchell on Saturday evening was quite a game. Scoreless enjoy tropical days at sea after regulation time, overtime followed. They played nine periods of' five-minute overtime before Mitchell scored to end the game 1-0. Congratulations to the team for a great effort. Marilyn McDonald also travelled to Sarnia to spend time visiting daughter Pat, son-in-law Michael and granddaughter Andrea. They also attended Sarah’s hockey games and spent time just visiting. There was a great turnout for the wedding reception for Barb Finlayson Vincent and Dean Vincent on Saturday evening at the BM&G Arena. The couple was married in the Dominican Republic on Jan. 28. The reception was decorated with the islands in mind even with sand on the tables. There were speeches and a meal at 11 p.m. and the bride and groom were dressed in their wedding day attire. Congratulations to the newlyweds. More changes on the 17th line of Grey (Walton Rd). Jeff and Sarah Grobbink have moved onto the line and we welcome them to the community. A new arrival on the line was a new lamb at Patty Banks’. Mother Dolly gave birth to baby Banksy on the coldest night. Needless to say, the lamb is keeping really close to the heat lamp. Walton euchre was cancelled due to weather and will return Feb. 27. Are you seeing more young people around this week? You should as many of the college and university students are off for reading week. Many mothers are hoping to get a little help or work out of these students, but I’m told by mine, there’s still homework and reports and assignments to be done. Oh well! Birthday babies this past week include Margaret Rogerson, Vai Pethick, Gary McNichol, Jack Knight, Peter McDonald, Allan Searle, Murray Houston, Meagan Campbell, and Phil Blake. Congrats to those who manage to celebrate through these cold days.
