Brussels Bantams tie series
Brussels Bantams are tied one
game to one against Tara in the best
of five WOAA final series.
It was a nailbiter when the squad
met their opponents in an away
game Feb. 11. With home ice
advantage Tara struck first in the
opening period, but Matt
McClinchey tied it up in an
unassisted effort in the dying
seconds before the buzzer.
Tara again took the lead midway
through the second period, only to
have Brussels tie it two minutes
later. Brad McKague set up Matt
White for the goal. Unfortunately,
the hosts managed to strike yet again
to take a one-point lead into the final
Atom series deadlocked
The Blyth Atom Bulldogs are
deadlocked at one with Normanby.
The first game was in Blyth, Feb.
13. The boys came out a little over
confident, finding themselves down
2-0 after two periods. Michael
McDowell shovelled home a loose
puck, assisted by Tyler Black and
Adam Cronin.
Although Blyth applied pressure, .
they couldn’t beat Normanby’s
goaltender, and lost game one, 2-1.
Grant Sparling played well in the
Dogs’ net.
Sunday, Feb. 16, Blyth travelled to
Ayton for game two. Normanby
scored early, but Blyth proved to be
determined to win, led by the
excellent play of Tolson Carter.
Carter recorded a natural hattrick,
with a coast-to-coast solo effort, a
breakaway from McDowell and an
empty netter to seal a Dog’s win.
Sheldon Reid and Sparling shared
the goaltending duties.
Blyth continues the quest to a
WOAA title, Friday at 6:30 p.m. in

Watkins, Tony Bean and McDowell.

with the eleventh of the game.

Youngblut and McDowell.
Belmore managed one more in the
period.
The visitors came out strong in
this one. McKague, with helpers
from White and McClinchey tied it
just minutes after the period began.
Not to be outdone, however, the
hosts responded quickly scoring to
take the lead yet again.
Adam McClure, set up by Scott
Phillips and Steven Ropp, knotted it
once more. Then, just one minute
later, McClinchey scored the go-
ahead goal with assists going to
White and Chase Chapman.
