The Seniors reschedule dessert shoot The Belgrave Seniors dessert shoot that was scheduled for Friday, Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. will be held in the Women’s Institute Hall instead of the arena. There were seven table of euchre in play on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the Women’s Institute Hall. Winners were high lady, Jane Grasby; second high lady, Ruth Johnston; lone hands, Aileen Leddy; low lady, Ada Taylor; high man, Jim Hunter; second high man, Dennis Leddy; lone hands, Joe Spitzig; low man, Allan Edgar. There is euchre again on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. leader opened with a poem, February Snow. She welcomed everyone and thanked the hostess. Laura Johnston conducted the worship with love as her theme. What A Friend We Have in Jesus was sung. She cited several stories from the Bible. Blest Be The Tide That Binds was sung. On a motion by Donna Shaw and Sheila Nixon it was agreed to host the Palliative Care luncheon at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15 in the United Church. Mrs. Coultes Ijad the program. She told of the work done by a past president National United Church Women, Jane Glaze of Brantford. After the sudden death of her husband she had a house built in Malawi. South Africa to be used as an orphanage. They have an average of 90 children suffering of AIDS or HIV. Mrs. Coultes related many stories of the care and compassion given to these children. FROM BELGRAVE 29 attend Club The Belgrave Community Club met on Friday, Feb. 7 in the Belgrave arena with 27 members and two guests present. The meeting opened with a welcome from Lome Campbell and the singing of O Canada. During the business it was decided to provide a program for Huronlea on Tuesday, May 13 and to donate towards the purchase of a Soundfield system for East Wawanosh Public School. Ada Taylor introduced the guests Ken and Marilyn Wood, who showed pictures of their recent trip to Australia. They went from Sydney, to Phillip Island where they saw the penguins, and to Melbourne to see Cook’s Cottage. From there they visited Ayres Rock, and saw the red sand and red rock, then on to the Outback where they allow 35 acres for one cattle beast. They visited the Flying Doctor’s place where people call for medical assistance as well as school classes by radio. The school area is very large and the teacher visits once a year. Then it was off on a hot air balloon. The Woods travelled to Broome in the northwest comer. It overlooks the Indian Ocean. Then it was on to Darwin in the very north and down the Great Barrier Reef on the east coast which covers 345,000 square kilometre before returning to Sydney. Barbara Anderson thanked them for their interesting talk. The next shoot party will be a dessert shoot to be held in the Women’s Institute Hall at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. Then Feb. 28, is the shoot party back in the arena.
