Volunteer
toolkit
with a
rural twist
The Valuing the Rural Volunteer
Toolkit is now available from The
Ontario Rural Council (TORC).
The intent of this rural-specific
toolkit is to stimulate rural
volunteerism, support rural
organizations in their work and lead
to the development of new skills
that will enable organizations to
thrive in the new age of
volunteerism.
“Volunteers from a broad cross
section of organizations were
interviewed and i ivolved in testing
and evaluating the toolkit. They
contributed greatly to the final
product,” expla.ns Elinor
Humphries, Alpha Projects, who
headed up the team that developed
the tools.
Participants at the pilot
workshops said the toolkit provided
“hands-on tools that could be used
right away”.
This 70-page resource is a
combination of new tools and
adapted existing materials. Visit
www.torc.on.ca/volunteer to view
the toolkit. Order a hard copy for
$15 (includes shipping, handling
and taxes) from The Ontario Rural
Council, 1 Stone Rd. W., 4th Floor,
Guelph, ON, N1G 4Y2, or call 519-
826-4128.
TORC is a forum that brings
together those who share a
commitment to building strong rural
communities and organisations. The
council provides a unique and
important opportunity for multi
sector co-operation within the rural
sector. TORC’s mandate is to be a
catalyst for rural dialogue,
collaboration and action with the
goal of strengthening rural voices in
Ontario.
The Ontario Rural Council
gratefully acknowledges the
financial support of the Ontario
Trillium Foundation, an agency of
the Ministry of Culture. With $100
million in annual funding from the
province’s charitable gaming
initiative, the Foundation provides
grants to eligible charitable and not-
for-profit organizations in- the arts,
