Members of Duff’s United Church Saturday at the Walton Church and
were greeted by Brian and Abby
McGavin.
The children started their Sunday
School lessons downstairs as later in
the service they were invited to
participate in communion. The
congregation was blessed by the

sang a cappella the song Make Me a
Channel of Your Peace. The
scripture reader was Darryl
Morrison.
Rev. Tuchlinsky dealt with how
society needs to be a healing
community that can be loving and
forgiving of human failings and
learn to build good relationships
with all.
Communion was served by
members of the communicants class
including Adam McClure, Andrew
MacDonald and Elise Ringgenberg.
They were assisted by Justin
Biesinger and Laura Black.

Travelling to Cuba and Varadero
Beach were Joe and Rhonda Ryan.
They stayed at the Rio Tequessa
Resort and report good weather, and
a good time. Joe reports Rhonda was
a little more careful this year and
suffered no embarrassing burns.
Honduras was the destination for
Ed McClure. He was near Barcelo
on the gulf side where it was very
tropical and hot. He was away one
week and enjoyed the resort, going
four-wheeling and taking the lagoon
tour. The resort is near the second
largest reef in the world and is said
to be fantastic.
Rob, Brenda, Jody and Nicole and
friends were off to Punta Cana in the
Dominican Republic for a great
week of holidays. The girls didn’t
want to return after enjoying the sun,
sand, kayaking, banana boat rides,
and learning how to snorkel. They
took a safari tour and were
astounded by the sites and how other
people live.
Travelling to Dominican Republic
and the Punta Cana area was also the
Finlayson clan. Barb Finlayson and
Dean Vincent were married on
Tuesday, Jan. 28 in a lovely island
setting. Attending was a group of 20
including the bride and groom,
Bryan and Brenda Finlayson,
Murray and Joyce Vincent, parents
of the couple, Darryl and Bonnie
(Finlayson) Hastings, Brad
Finlayson and Shannon Gibbons and
10 other area guests. They report a
lovely wedding and a great time.
A reception will be held at BM&G
in Brussels on Feb. 15 for the
newlyweds. Congratulations to the
happy couple.
Heading north, not south were a
group of snowmobile enthusiasts to
Lake Nipissing and Russell
McCallum’s cottage. Travelling
were Ron McCallum, Barry Hoegy,
Murray Dennis, Bill McClure and
Brian Wilbee. It was pretty cold, at -
30° a couple of days, but they still
put over 900 kms. on the machines
in a week.
Heading ‘west’ for just a day’s
visit were Mary and Wenda
Humphries. They were all the way to
Bayfield to visit the Kruse boys,
Mary’s grandchildren and the boys’
uncle. George and Kim were away
on holiday and grandma and Aunt
Wenda enjoyed their day with the
boys, Andrew and Bryce.
The Walton Inn had a celebrity
enjoying lunch there on Wednesday.

one Elvis impersonator, and is also

from the
Dundalk area and had a pleasant chat
with Patty Banks. He didn't sing for
us but he certainly has the looks.
Just a coincidence in chatting with
Bruce Clark, he reports that he used
to work with Peter when he was with
Bell Telephone and his nickname
was Hollywood. Small world isn't
it?
The birthday babies last week
included Chris Ryan, Mark Wilbee,
Brian Traviss, Dave Watson, Thys
DeJong, Sarah Mitchell, Brian
Williamson, Amy Shortreed,
Marilyn McDonald, Mike Durell,
Pam Hackwell and Sherri Bachert.
Congrats to all.
Good news that Neil McGavin had
his surgery last week and has been
released and is home. He’s keeping a
low profile and we wish him a
speedy recovery.
