Hullett students score well
Results are back from the EQAO
tests written by the Grade 3 and
Grade 6 pupils last May in reading,
writing and mathematics — the three
Rs. Consequently, the Christmas
holidays are started on a proud note.
The scores for the Hullett school
pupils have risen significantly over
the scores of 2001. The Grade 3
results surpassed the provincial
average in all three areas.
Help protect the
environment
Reduce, reuse and recycle
For the Grade 6s, the results in
reading and mathematics were
above the provincial average.
Writing scores for the Grade 6
pupils approached the average.
Congratulations to both staff and
students for a job well done and for
sharing this news with the
community.
Kelly Stevenson reports that on
Dec. 17 Hullett had a spirit day. The
pupils were asked to wear their
Hullett t-shirts or colours to school
that day.
The Christmas concert on Dec. 11
was a huge success. Everyone was
very proud of the big effort the
pupils put into learning their parts.
Dec. 20 was the last day of classes
for 2002. Classes resume January 6.

would like to take this
opportunity to wish all of you only
good times and good things during
the holiday season. Also to thank
you for all the encouraging
comments I've received over the
past year from you, the column's
readers and contributors.
From The Little Book of
Christmas Joys I offer two
suggestions.
First, don't -forget whose birthday
we're celebrating this week.
Secondly, on New Year's Day, light
three candles and think about the
three things that happened this past
year for which you are most
thankful.
Last Monday Dec. 16 the village
learned of the death of a long-time.
resident Vietta Hoggart.
Vietta and husband, George,
moved into the village in 1971 into
the house previous!) owned by Alex
Wells. They left the family farm
when son Harvey and his new bride,
Yvonne took over the farming at that
location. George passed away in
1996 and following her second hip
surgery, Vietta moved to Maplewood
Manor in Seaforth some four years
ago.
A mother of six, Vietta enjoyed
and cared for her family all her life.
Her children noted what a support
she always was to her husband in his
farming, with his job as road
superintendent for Hullett Twp. and
during the years of handling a mail
route.
The well on their property has
supplied water to a number of homes
over the years.
Vietta enjoyed gardening, both
flowers and vegetables, playing
cards, attending Cheerio Club and
family gatherings of any size. Many
of us recall her friendly nature,
always ready to chat when we met
her.
Others remember the dozens of
double mitts she knit.
In'Maplewood she was able to stay •
reasonably independent while, after
so many years of hard work, being
just a little pampered. Maplewood
living gave Vietta many
opportunities to socialize with other
residents, some she had known since
childhood, and her many visitors.
With all the changes in real estate
in Londesboro recently, many
villagers probably didn't know just
who lived in that big house behind
the manse. Others of us will miss her
presence in our community and
lives. FROM LONDESBORO

Christmas Wish Campaign Our 2002 Christmas Campaign is
underway. This Holiday Season the Seaforth Community Hospital is in
critical need of a gift that we just can't live without. That gift is a 3 in
Cardiac Monitor. In the Spirit of the Season, please be generous with a
donation "from the heart..for the heart" to the Seaforth Hospital
Foundation. This year's campaign also includes a Christmas card for
everyone to return their Season's Greetings to the Health.Care staff and
patients at Seaforth Hospital. Memorial Gifts are a wonderful way to
honour the memory of a deceased or loved one.
Donation Wheeled Walkers at their recent Wine and Cheese Reception,
the Huron County Junior Farmers presented two folding, 4 wheeled
walkers (including seat and basket) to Seaforth Community Hospital.
The same donation was made to each of the hospitals in Huron County.
The staff here is most grateful for this generous donation made by these
fine young people.
Huron Hospice Christmas Tree Draw was won by Jean McLean. Your
generosity in supporting this worthwhile cause is much appreciated.
