At The Branch
Cadets present
marching demo
FROM BRUSSELS
Help protect the
environment
Reduce, reuse and recycle
By Jo-Ann McDonald
Welcome back to Julie and Kate
Harrison who were away to Sault
Ste. Marie to visit parents and family
of Julie's.
The Cadets had an enjoy-
able evening on Tuesday when
they entertained their families
at the Branch. They demon-
strated their marching and other'
skills they have learned and then
they enjoyed a delicious potluck
meal.
The Cadets will be on break for the
next couple of weeks.
Dues are due. There are only 15
days left in 2002. Membership dues
for 2003 are $45.
New Year's Eve tickets are
available, but limited. They are $5
and the meal is potluck. Tickets are
available at the Branch and Brussels
Variety.
Friday night meals resume on Jan.
3 with sausage and sauerkraut.
The Branch will be closed Dec. 24
at 6 p.m. and closed Dec. 25, 26 and
Jan. 1.
The Thursday night dart league
had its Christmas fun night. There
were 10 darters and the winners were
tied. Sharing top honours were Tom
Warner and John Harrison, Sandra
Josling and Bob Cochrane. The
lucky prize winners from the draw
were Julie Harrison, Cathy
Cochrane, Tom Warner and Bob
Cochrane.
Darts resume Jan. 2 at 8 p.m.
The Branch has lost another of
its veterans this past . week. Com-
rade Bill Coutts passed away Friday,
Dec. 20. He was a veteran of the
Second World War serving overseas
in Italy and South Africa. Our
condolences to his wife Marie and
family.
One suspect in the Dec. 10, 2001
murder of Harold Chesney McGee
of Nile pled guilty in Goderich court
Friday afternoon.
Jason Clifford Brown, of Goderich
entered the plea and will face
sentencing Feb. 6, 2003, said Huron
OPP Constable Serkowney.
His co-defendant will also
reappear in court Feb. 6 as his
lawyer requested more time to
consider what action his client
would take.
McGee was found dead after
Huron OPP went to his home at the
request of family members. He had
been beaten to death.
Peace on earth goodwill to man
Hum along now and if you really
concentrate you can even feel the
joy and goodwill in the air. This is a
magical season.
The houseguests are starting to
arrive as is the anticipation level in
many folks that I know makes the
waiting time so much fun to watch,
and of course be a part of. Did you
see Mary Carr and her four-legged
buddies made the front page of The
Record last week? Now Kitchener
can smile as Mary walks by with her
pets, just like we did for many years.
Don't forget to have fun this next
two weeks as the children enjoy
their school break and you get to
enjoy their company.
While in WaterlOo shoppung last
week I had Christmas handed to me
by a wonderful young couple. My
wallet was not in my bag when I got
to the car — panic and horrors. When
I returned to the bench of my last
stop a wonderful voice said, "Did
you lose your wallet?" and there in
her hand complete with angelic
smile was the wallet. All the
thoughts that go with Christmas
flooded my mouth as I tried to voice
my relief and gratitude to this
modern couple of Christmas time.
Yes it's a wonderful time of the year!
From the Graber and Watson line
may your Christmas be filled with
love. May your memories be held
fast with gold and dreams and may
you follow the star of Bethlehem
finding in the familiar story the
essentials of life. May Peace, Joy,
Hope and Love be yours! ,-
Blessed Christmas Greetings!

Time for fun
Junior students at Brussels Public School had an afternoon
filled with games and activities when the senior students
organized a fun day. Kindergarten pupil Mitchell Kellington
paints a hand cutout while others bowled, pinned the nose
on Rudolph, had their faces painted or enjoyed some
treats. (Janice Becker photo)
