Delegation seeks funds
No place to spend Christmas
Crime Stoppers was represented with this cagey entry in
the Blyth Christmas parade held Friday night. (Vicky Bremner

A delegation supporting repairs for
St. Helens Hall asked for a
contribution to the cause when they
attended an Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh council meeting.
Jo-Ann Todd, representing the
delegates, told council there was a
committee willing to commit its time
and money towards repairing the
hall, noting that some donations had
already been received.
Council will have Chief Building
Official Grant Anger look at the
situation and inventory donations so
that council would know where there
are shortfalls.
The building cannot be rented out
OPP
investigate
theft
On Dec. 7 Huron OPP were called
to an apartment on Turnberry Street
in Brussels about a break-in that had
occurred at the residence.
The front door of the apartment
had been forced open and thieves
removed a 450-watt amplifier, a
Sony Playstation and a CD case
containing approximately 30 CDs.
Police are continuing their
investigation and ask anyone with
information to call Huron OPP or
Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477
(TIPS).
Help protect the
environment
Reduce, reuse
and recycle
until repairs are completed.
Following receipt of a clarification
letter from Wheels Away, council
agreed to donate $300 to the
organization.
The letter explained that all
donations are used to offset
operating costs, not just the
municipality's share. The alternative
would be to contribute on a per
capita basis which council felt would
be too expensive.
The municipal office will be open
normal office hours on Dec. 23, until
noon on Dec. 24 and closed for the
remainder of the week.
In response to a request from
Birch Beach residents, council said
Birch Beach Road could not be
plowed in the winter.
The road is too narrow, with only
one lane and there are fences, trees
and bushes on both sides. The area
would have to be cleared and the
road widened to allow for
snowplowing.
Council was also concerned about
setting a precedent for other such
roadways.
As the residents have said they do
not want the road widened, council
will no-provide winter maintenance.
A dm i n i strator/C I erk -Treasurer
Mark Becker was instructed to
forward a letter to the provincial
government stating council's
support to keep Colborne Central
Public School open.
Following changes to a bylaw as a
result of a public meeting, council
agreed to pass the tylaw for the
Jeffray rezoning.
The tank for the Huron Sands
water system was a concern for
council. Council would like a long-
term guarantee for the structure.
Becker will have an engineer look at
the situation.
Councillors Eric Gosse, Marilyn
Miltenburg, Connie Black, Kevin
Shiels and Doug Fines, along with
Public Works Superintendent Kevin
Cook will attend the ROMA/OGRA
in Toronto, Feb. 23-26.
