Grey Central Echo Report cards now home FROM ETHEL 3 share the wealth There were 14 tables of players at the Ethel Euchre on Monday, Nov. 25. Winners were: share-the-wealth, George Pearson, Helen Cullen, Jim McGillawee: high, Alda Wordeti, Marion Behrns; lone hands, Marion Harrison, Leota Thompson, Eva Harrison, Roy McIntosh. Adrien Verstoep; low, Shirley Kingsly, George Pearson. There were eight lucky tally winners. The next euchre will be held on Monday, Dec. 9 at 8:30 P.m. Serve it up Girls teams for the North Huron schools competed in the annual volleyball tournament at Brussels Public School last week, while their male counterparts were at Wingham. Brussels struggled against a strong Howick opponent in this match. (Bonnie Gropp photo) Grey firefighters had a busy month of November with nine calls, three of which occurred last week within a 27-hour period. • The firefighters responded to two separate motor vehicle accidents, as well as a shed fire at the Fournier residence in Ethel. The Mutual Aid meetings for the fire department are finished until the spring. The Christmas celebration is on the Dec. 21. Plans are falling into place for the Ethel Family Christmas Celebration on Dec. 12. Doug Conley has offered his hay wagon for the caroling around town and the baking of squares has begun. Yesterday, despite the blustery weather, Curtis and Jesse, Michael and Stephanie and our clan braved tht. weather for some tobogganing thrills down by the bridge. After I fumbled my way down the hill on our snowboard, Curtis looked at Michael (who was set to go down on another snowboard) and said" Okay Michael, now do it right!" It was almost a thing of beauty to watch him sail down the hill! Ethel seems to have many eager snowmobilers (including several in our house) enjoying this dumping of snow we received. I confess that even I took our sled out for a blood pumping I'm-not-pregnant-this- winter run on Sunday (my children are still in shock) and it felt so good! 1 would like to remind people that travelling on private property is illegal, not to mention dangerous. Also, if you cause damage to someone's property with your snowmobile, (like the machine that drove through our wooden fence Sunday night and didn't bother to come and tell us) the "Motorized Snow Vehicle Act" section 13 explains that you have a duty to report to the police, damage that you have directly or indirectly caused, that exceeds $400. I would like to think that if someone caused damage to a homeowner's property, regardless of the amount, they would knock on the door and own up. It's a respect thing. Report cards should have been received for all Grey Central students, SK to Grade 8 on Monday this week. Parent-teacher interviews are scheduled for the evening of Thursday, Dec. 5 from 4 - 8 p.m. and during the day on Friday, Dec. 6. Wednesday, Dec. II is Grey Central's Christmas concert to be held at 7 p.m. Dress rehearsal will be held on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. The senior girls volleyball team travelled to Brussels on Wednesday to play in the North Region Volleyball tournament. The girls played extremely well, having close matches with Howick and East Wawanosh. Miss Henry is very proud of the sportsmanship the girls showed and how well they played. Miss Hill accompanied the senior boys volleyball team to their North Region volleyball tournament, held in Wingham on Wednesday. She would like to congratulate the team on their effort and sportsmanlike behaviour. This week Ms Van Bolhius's morning class painted a large world display which will be in the centre of the Grade Is pictures. It will be displayed in the board office until the end of December. In math, they are studying place value and are preparing a skit for the Christmas concert entitled The Tale of the Christmas Mouse. The afternoon class is helping with the props for the concert. In math, they are learning subtraction, and how to multiple decimals. Three of the students, Jasmin, Mark, and Jim are painting the windows in Mrs. Goodall's classroom. Mrs. Bowler's kindergarten class is learning the letter H. They made houses out of milk cartons. They had a hot chocolate party. They got three new goldfish to enjoy and observe in their classroom. Mrs. Smith's kindergarten class enjoyed learning the colour brown and they have learned 13 letters of the alphabet this year. They displayed their teddy bears in the hall from smallest to biggest. The kindergarten class loved reading Goldilocks and the Three Beai-s. Miss Hill's class is starting to make Christmas workbooks. The Grade Is are starting subtraction. Mrs. Taylor's Grade 3s arc learning about measurement math. Miss Aarssen has been teaching the Grade 4/5s. The Grade 4s arc learning about Nova Scotia in social studies and light in science. The Grade 5s are studying the Greeks in social studies and the body, specifically the circulating system. In art, they are creating geometric shape, collages and learning about the artist, Braque. Miss Henry's Grade 7 class is completing their study of heat in science and will be having a unit test on Dec. 12. In addition, the Grade 7s are finishing up their geography unit on the themes of geographic inquiry; the test for this unit will be Dec. 19. The plan is to have all of the units completed by Christmas, so students can enjoy their Christmas break. In math, Mr. Payne's Grade R class is calculating area of parallelograms and triangles. They are spelling unusual plurals and Latin roots. In science, they are reviewing machines. In music, they are doing a new album of George Harrison's works.
