Sports
The Brussels had a very busy
week, playing one league game then
three in the Ayton tournament.
The squad travelled to Clifford
Nov. 27 to be met by strong offence.
Clifford notched two before
Brussels broke onto the scoreboard.
Adam McClure's pass to Matt
McClinchey hit the net at 6:25 of the
first. After seeing Clifford regain the
two-goal lead, Greg Bowers goal at
1:26 drew them to within one again.
Chase Chapman earned the assist.
Brussels tied the game early in the
second when Brad McKague got the
puck to Nathan Prior for his shot
past the netminder.
The teams each added two in the
middle frame, with Brussels' second
coming off the stick of Bowers.
Chris Jutzi assisted. Brussels ended
the period down 5-4.
Bowers' third of the match drew
the visitors even with just over five
and half minutes remaining.
However, the defence could not hold
off Clifford, allowing two goals in
the final four minutes.
Brussels took the 7-5 loss.
Clinton
dominates
Brussels Tykes
From the beginning, the Clinton
Squad dominated their Brussels
Tykes hosts when the two teams met
Nov. 30.
Brock McLean had the first chance
for the home team, when he broke
free, but was stopped at the blue line.
Brody Ten Pas showed his
determination when he kept the puck
inside the Clinton blueline and
pushed towards the net, but was
unrewarded.
Though offsides continued to
cause confusion for the squad, both
teams made good plays during their
shifts.
In the end. the strong offensive
play by Clinton conquered the
Brussels defence for the win.
Contribution
In 2001, Canada had the privilege of hosting the World
Figure Skating Championship in Vancouver, B.C. After this
world-class event was complete Skate Canada divided up
the profits and awarded $300 to every skating club and
school in Canada. The money was to be given to a skater
or skaters in the club at the discretion of the executive. The
Blyth club presented six of its skaters, representing every
group involved with a cheque for $50 each. Top left is Luke

Brussels Bantams win A
A great team effort in tournament
play on Nov. 30 led Brussels to the
A championship.
Brussels once again met Clifford
and though they scored first,
Brussels took the 2-1 loss.
McClinchey scored with the help of
Steven Ropp.
The Bantams took on Lions Head
in the second game, tallying four
goals in the first and allowing three
by their opponent. Scorers were
Prior, McClinchey (two) and Jutzi.
Assists went to McClinchey (two).
McKague and Mitch Blake.
Brussels continued to play strong
in the second, beating the goalie for
three and taking a 7-3 lead.
McClinchey added two to his stats
and Bowers scored a. single. Cory
Chapman assisted.
Though Lions Head managed one
in the third, Cory Chapman also put
one in the- net for the 8-4 victory.
Having earned nine points in the
tournament, based on the number of
periods won and games captured,
Brussels advanced to the A final
against Clifford.
The team was determined to take
the win, having already played them
twice in two days.
With fine goaltending from C.J.
Ashley, Brussels had solid defence
to support their four goals.
McClinchey racked-up three while
Chase Chapman added one. Shayne
Cochrane and McKague each
earned assists.
The team kept Clifford to just two
goals, thereby securing the A title
with the 4-2 win.
