Brussels Public School news
Madill students put on show for BPS students
As always there is always
something happening at Brussels
Public School. This week is it's a
drama production put on by a drama
group of students from F.E. Madill
Secondary School. The play is based
on a true story.
It begins in 1895 with orphaned
children in Great Britain. They
immigrated to Canada, and were
known as the Bernardo children. The
story is about three of these
homeless children and their
struggles and trials to make a new
life for themselves.
The students seeing productions
were Grades 3/4, 415 and 6. Two
classes from Blyth Public School
were also invited to watch the play.
The students were given the
chance to contribute vocally,
physically and imaginatively to the
development of the play.
Students and teachers are working
very hard at getting their projects
and reports in for marking. Reports
cards will be going home on Dec. 2
and parent-teacher interviews will be
on Thursday, Dec. 5 from 4 to 5 p.m.
and on Friday, Dec. 6 from 8:30 a.m.
until 3 p.m.
Any parents who have not
returned their interview request form
to the school office are asked to do
SO.
The kindergarten class has been
discussing healthy foods. They have
homework to complete and return.
They have been asked to cut out
pictures of food and place them on a
piece of paper that divides the food
into the different food groups. They
also brought round snacks to share
with the class, there were so many
interesting things to see. They also
did some stamping using circle
shapes.
The letter of the week was I using
their finger phonics. They have also
been playing bingo to increase letter
recognition.
Mrs. Douma's class has been
talking about families, how each and
everyone is different and yet they
have similarities. They have learned
that all families have rules and
responsibilities, just like at school.
In art they made some November
Night silhouettes.
They are working on graphing
skills. So far they have graphed the
different kinds of pets and kinds of
mini chocolate bars that come in a
bag of chocolates.
Grade 3/4s are busy finishing up
their geometry unit and are prepared
for their unit end test. They are also
finishing up their science unit on
magnets. Their next unit will be on
studying structures and stability.
In social studies they are working
on projects concerning the different
provinces. The highlight of their
week is writing to their pen pals.
They are going to be writing to a
Grade 4 class from Wingham Public
School.
Grade 4/5s are still working on
geometry and think they should soon
know all the angles.
They have started working on
volleyball skills in gym.
In French class the Grade 4
students are finishing a unit on pets
and the Grade 5 students are working
on making weather presentations. In
science they conducted some
experiments on reaction time,
nutrients and adsorption and how the
brain sends messages.
Mrs. Steinmann's class is going to
begin a new unit in French on
restaurants.
In math Grade 6s are working on
angles. In language skills they are
responding to literature and in
science it is microscopic organisms
being studied.
The Grade 7 and 8 students
worked on a geography project this
week which incorporated the idea of
using scrapbooking techniques to
create a visually appealing display.
Their next geography unit is on
population patterns in Canada.
The Grade 8 class is working on an
art technique called Tripy in the
forms of impressionism, realism,
and abstract using a leaf. They will
begin a French project this week
where they are to create a comic strip
for their Galaxy Virtualle unit.
Both classes are beginning to learn
about structural stability in science
and in gym class they are working on
volleyball.
The boys and girls volleyball
teams have been practising their
skills for the upcoming tournament
on Nov. 27.
