Sports Blyth PeeWees win 2 Brussels Bantams split this past week's action with a home-ice loss to Lucknow and a victory in Zurich. On Nov. 13 in Brussels the first period saw no scoring on either side. Then Lucknow got on the board early in the second only to have Chris Jutzi skate in to cancel it just over a minute later. Greg Bowers picked up the assist. Brussels took the lead when Cory Chapman, set up by Bowers scored the team's second. Lucknow tied it, however, then Milverton, Elma-Logan down Blyth Bantams It was a rough weekend for the Blyth Bantams as they suffered two losses away from home. On Saturday, Nov. 16 the squad travelled to Milverton and faced a trouncing of 11-3 by their hosts. Bulging the twine for Blyth were John Bokhout and Darcey Cook with two. Orie Falconer assisted on Cook's second of the day. - Sharing duty between the pipes for the visitors was Zach Horn and Joel Salverda. The competition was considerably tighter the next day when Blyth took on Elma-Logan. The hosts.scored in each period, while shutting out the -Myth squad, to take a 3-0 win. Goalie for the . visitors was Jeff Elliott. really put the pressure on by adding some insurance in the dying seconds before the buzzer. Matt McClinchey managed to tie it again halfway through the final period, with helpers going to James Cochrane and C.J. Ashley, only to have Lucknow seal the victory before the game ended. Brussels. had some breathing room Nov. 17 as they glided to an 8-4 victory in Zurich. McClinchey led the Brussels scoring with a hattrick. Singles went Myth PeeWees have notched two in the win column in season play thus far. Oct. 21 the team took on Elma Logan in an exhibition match and came out on the short side of an 8-5 score. Derek Youngblut led the Blyth scoring with a hattrick, while Tony 'Bean and Johnathon McDowell scored singles. Assists went to Curtis Robertson with three, Ken Plunkett, Lee Watkins, Mat Stevenson and Thomas Lecomte. In a close contest against Belmore. Oct. 28, Blyth skated to victory. Belmore got on the board first in the second, then Blyth scored three goals in under six minutes. Each team tallied one in the third period to finish it 4-2. Scoring for Blyth were Plunkett with two, Youngblut and McDowell. Assists went' to Robertson with three, Brett Courtney, McDowell and Roman Sturzenegger. Nov. 4 the team edged Clifford 7- 6 at home in a physical contest. The home side had six penalties, while the visitors had two. Scoring were McDowell, Plunkett on a powerplay, Lee Watkins, Lecomte with two, one unassisted, Youngblut and Robertson, unassisted. Assists went to Youngblut, Courtney, McDowell, Stevenson, Lecomte and Sturzenegger. Nov. 10 was in Kurtzville against Wallace Twp. The hosts whitewashed their visitors 6-0. Two more games have resulted in losses for the squad against Howick and Belmore. This weekend the team will be playing in the Zurich tournament. Tykes fired up for opener At the season opener for the Brussels Tykes in Bayfield, Saturday, Nov. 16, it was hard to say who was more excited, the players or the parents, as for many on the team it was their first game on the ice.
