Seaforth church hosts fifth annual home tour
Following last year's event
Seaforth's Christmas Home Tour
returns Nov. 15-17.
Five homes - showing modern
and traditional architecture will be
open to visitors, along with the host
of this tour - Northside United
Church.
Ron and Sheila Lavoie
Built in 1875 this unique home is
both eye-catching and historically
important.
Victorian Queen Anne in design,
renovations of this painted lady
have preserved the history of this
home and also provided it with
modern conveniences.
The Lavoies have owned the
home since 1998. Previously it was
the home of Mac and Lily McKeller
from 1926-1985.
Stained glass windows are
throughout the house, including a
portrait picture window in the
library of William Henry
Drummond, a famous Canadian
poet.
A collection of his works can be
found in the library. In the dining
room a picture created with
charcoals by F. Carpenter is
preserved and inset in the wall.
Period light fixtures hang
throughout the home, including a
restored fixture in the kitchen that
was found in the cellar.
The home's third floor is popular
with children as it features a game
board painted on the floor.
Forbes Flower Magic will
decorate the home.-
Peggoty's Bed and Breakfast
Built in the late' 1800s by the
Gillespie family, this handsome
Victorian brick home has been
owned by a policeman, lawyers and
teachers. Recently it has been
transformed into a English Bed and
Breakfast and Tea Room by owners
Beverley and Kindah Mardam Bey.
The new owners have completed
extensive renovations and
decorating to the home which offers
both an elegant and warm appeal.
The owners have seen attentive to
maintaining the home's historic
charm, and at the same time
providing modern conveniences for
guests in the four suites - each with
its own character and unique decor.
Peggoty's Bed and Breakfast and
Tea Room derives its name from a
famous Charles Dickens character.
Peggoty is a great cook, attentive
and a jovial individual who
befriends David Copperfield.
The owners aim for those same
qualities for both overnight guests
and customers to the tea room.
Beverley and Kindah will
decorate their home for the tour.
Jack and Audrey McIlwain
The Mcllwains purchased their
property 42 years ago and have
enjoyed learning the history of the
land which was first registered in
1876.
The Mcllwains are very interested
in the history of this home which
they have modernized over the
years. In 1978 the home was
'renovated and added to - just in time
for Christmas.
The home will be decorated by
Country Flowers in Exeter. -
As well, there will be some extra
attractions here. In the basement of
the home there will be a special
display of hockey memorabilia and
outdoor sports. Also on display will
be wood carving by Tom Shannon
and stained glass by Jim Baynham.
In the garage a couple of
handsome vehicles can be viewed
including a 1985 Gatsby Sports
Convertible built and owned by
Robert Kerr and Jack Turnbull's
antique car.
Jason and Nancy Smith

country home was built in the 1800s
and has been in the family since
1932.

windows and original wood work
and flooring are featured.

further enhanced the home. An
original wood staircase leads to the

each decorated to suit the tastes of a
young family.

kitchen. the second floor features a
master bedroom with fireplace and
ensuite, office, sitting room and
additional bedrooms.
