PAGE 23. Seaforth church hosts fifth annual home tour Following last year's event Seaforth's Christmas Home Tour returns Nov. 15-17. Five homes - showing modern and traditional architecture will be open to visitors, along with the host of this tour - Northside United Church. Ron and Sheila Lavoie Built in 1875 this unique home is both eye-catching and historically important. Victorian Queen Anne in design, renovations of this painted lady have preserved the history of this home and also provided it with modern conveniences. The Lavoies have owned the home since 1998. Previously it was the home of Mac and Lily McKeller from 1926-1985. Stained glass windows are throughout the house, including a portrait picture window in the library of William Henry Drummond, a famous Canadian poet. A collection of his works can be found in the library. In the dining room a picture created with charcoals by F. Carpenter is preserved and inset in the wall. Period light fixtures hang throughout the home, including a restored fixture in the kitchen that was found in the cellar. The home's third floor is popular with children as it features a game board painted on the floor. Forbes Flower Magic will decorate the home.- Peggoty's Bed and Breakfast Built in the late' 1800s by the Gillespie family, this handsome Victorian brick home has been owned by a policeman, lawyers and teachers. Recently it has been transformed into a English Bed and Breakfast and Tea Room by owners Beverley and Kindah Mardam Bey. The new owners have completed extensive renovations and decorating to the home which offers both an elegant and warm appeal. The owners have seen attentive to maintaining the home's historic charm, and at the same time providing modern conveniences for guests in the four suites - each with its own character and unique decor. Peggoty's Bed and Breakfast and Tea Room derives its name from a famous Charles Dickens character. Peggoty is a great cook, attentive and a jovial individual who befriends David Copperfield. The owners aim for those same qualities for both overnight guests and customers to the tea room. Beverley and Kindah will decorate their home for the tour. Jack and Audrey McIlwain The Mcllwains purchased their property 42 years ago and have enjoyed learning the history of the land which was first registered in 1876. The Mcllwains are very interested in the history of this home which they have modernized over the years. In 1978 the home was 'renovated and added to - just in time for Christmas. The home will be decorated by Country Flowers in Exeter. - As well, there will be some extra attractions here. In the basement of the home there will be a special display of hockey memorabilia and outdoor sports. Also on display will be wood carving by Tom Shannon and stained glass by Jim Baynham. In the garage a couple of handsome vehicles can be viewed including a 1985 Gatsby Sports Convertible built and owned by Robert Kerr and Jack Turnbull's antique car. Jason and Nancy Smith This 2-1/2 storey yellow brick country home was built in the 1800s and has been in the family since 1932. High ceilings, stained glass windows and original wood work and flooring are featured. Renovations and additions have further enhanced the home. An original wood staircase leads to the second floor with its four bedrooms, each decorated to suit the tastes of a young family. The home will be decorated by Stewart Acres, Seaforth and Simply Country, Mitchell. Doug and Chris Fry A 10-acre country setting provides a lovely back for this modern home. The front entrance features a curved oak staircase and reads to an open concept design and spacious country kitchen. the second floor features a master bedroom with fireplace and ensuite, office, sitting room and additional bedrooms. The home will be decorated by Jillian's Design, Mitchell. Northside United Church Built in 1877, the church sanctuary features cast iron railing and iron columns and a unique three-sided balcony. The details in the balcony railing matches the patterns in the stained glass windows. The interior also features Festival vouchers on sale Voucher packages are now on sale for the 2002/2003 Blyth Festival season. Vouchers can be redeemed for tickets to any of the season's five productions starting in the spring when the box office opens.
