Citizen staff
The small community of Ethel
may soon be attracting visitors from
a great distance if the hopes of
Mervin and Adeline Brubacher are
fulfilled.
The Brubachers opened
Brubachers of Ethel earlier this
month, a new restaurant for the
village.
They hope to follow the lead of
Anna Mae's, a very popular
restaurant which opened in
Millbank a few years ago and
features home cooking and a
selection of baked goods.
The couple will be doing their
own baking with Adeline Brubacher
overseeing the task as her husband
learns the job. They will also have
homemade breads, tarts, rolls and
pastries with all the baked items
Laidlaw, Krystle Ziegler. Heather
Stewart, Krysta Richmond and
Tamara Moser. formed the colour
party, placing the flags at the front of
the gym.
Mrs. Murray's Grade 4/5s gave an
a capella rendition of Poppies Red.
Accompanied by his guitar, Mr.
Park's Grade 2/3 class sang It
Would Be a Wonderful World. Grade
available to be purchased to take
home.
Aside from the restauran fare,
visitors will be able to pick up items
such as pop, chocolate bars and
candy, said Mervin Brubacher. "The
children need a place to go."
"The (adults) need a place to
gather, too," he added.
As first-time restaurant owners,
the Brubachers "hope to create -a
whole different atmosphere" as they
renovate and redecorate the old
corner store which has seen many
uses over the years.
Walls have been moved and
added, as well as being repainted
and new flooring has been installed.
The restaurant, which will seat
approximately 35 people, will be
open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.,
Monday to Saturday, to start, said
Mervin Brubacher. Adjustments will
be made as needed.
8 student Justin Hubbert recited John
McCrae's In Flanders Fields. Miss
Henry's Grade 7 class sang Day is
Done, accompanied and directed by
Mr. Payne.
Two Minutes of Silence was
observed, then a video of artwork by
Mrs. Goodall's Grade I class was
accompanied by What a Wonderful
World. Miss VanBolhuis' SCC class
shared a variety of poems.
During the laying of the wreaths,
Miss Hill played 0 God Our Help in
Ages Past and a group of Grade 8
students read Please Wear a Poppy.
At the end of the observance, the
assembly participated in singing
imagine, led by the Grade 7 and 8s.
Mrs. McDowell invited students to
lay down their poppies at the base of
the cross as they retired from the
gym.
Grade 4-8 are making plans to go
to The Centre in the Square in
Kitchener on Friday, Nov. 22.
• In Mrs. Bowler's kindergarten
class they learned the letter C. They
read a story by Eric Carle called
Little Cloud. They learned all about
triangles. They created a .
Remembrance Day wreath, which
Lexi Smith and Wyatt Stevenson
laid during the service in the gym.
Mrs. Smith's kindergarten class is
working on the letters N and R. They
are learning the colour brown. Bears
is their theme for November.
Dakota Godden and Andrew
Patton were KC's wreath bearers
during the Remembrance Day
Assembly.
In Grade I, they are learning
addition and are reading Swing In
readers. They have been making
puppets and creating shows.
Brooklyn Smith and Curtis
Terpstra represented the class during
the Remembrance Day service.
Miss Hill's class was talking about
pets they have. They were also
learning the letters F and B.
Famke Van Brugge and Janessa
Smith placed the Grade 1/2 wreath
during the Remembrance Day
service. Danielle Stewart and David
Spek laid the Grade 2/3 wreath. Zack
Indoe and Marissa Lefor were the
representatives chosen from Mrs.
Taylor's Grade 3/4 class. The
Primary SCC wreath was laid by
Janelle Smith and Curtis McKinnon.
Mrs. Murray's 4/5s had a test on
the artists they have studied recently:
George Surrat, George Ruraul,
Grandma Moses and Vincent
VanGough.
Greg Kuepfer and Kayla Stewart
were the class's wreath bearers at the
Remembrance Day service.
In language arts, they have written
their own poems, including a Haiku.
In social studies, Grade 4s have
started studying Prince Edward
Island while Grade 5s are learning
about the human body.
Mr. Walker's Grade 5/6s visited
the Legion in Brussels.
Rebecca Wilbee and Randy Zwep
represented the class by laying a
wreath to honour fallen soldiers
during the Remembrance Day
service.
A couple of students in Miss
Henry's class need to be mentioned,
as their skills and willingness to help
lent to the meaning of the
Remembrance Day service. Mrs.
Goodall and Mrs. McDowell would
like to extend a special thanks to
Grade 7 •students, Anna Glen and
Lindsay Stewart, for scanning and
putting together the Grade I artwork
slideshow for the school to enjoy.
John Bentley and Dena Davidson
from Grade 7 and Grade 8s Alyssa
Lewis and Jim Cochrane were
wreath bearers.
