We invite your readers to join us at
this vigil and to observe a period of
silent and vocal prayer. We are
holding the vigil at 10 pm so as not
to conflict with the Women's Shelter
benefit dinner being held earlier that
evening in Goderich. Let us stand
together to cry NO to violence in our
homes and communities. Let us
stand together to cry NO to war on
Iraq. And let us stand together to
witness to the power of love and say
YES to peace.
On Remembrance Day we
remember the tragedy of past wars.
We honour and mourn the dead and
damaged. But are we willing to learn
the lessons of the past century? The
"war to end all wars" did not end
war. War does not end war. War fans
the fires of hate and scatters the
embers of future wars across the
landscape. Peace does not come out
of the barrel of a gun or reside at the
base of a mushroom cloud. Peace
comes from peacemaking, from
healing, from forgiveness and
repentance. We invite your readers
to bring a candle to the vigil as a
light of hope in dark times.
Yours sincerely,
Tony McQuail,
