Motions were passed to donate $50 to the Blyth skate-a-thon, and to purchase of an oven and freezer for the purpose of food to be served in the Legion lounge. The joint executive meeting with the Ladies Auxiliary is Nov. 19. Mixed darts started Nov. 10 and euchre Nov. I 1. These run every second week. Zone Commander Bob Grey's and Deputy Zone commander Shirley Chalmers's official visit and the presentation of Honours and Awards to remaining associate and affiliate voting members will be on the agenda for the Dec. 5 meeting. A reminder to all members that important decisions are made at these monthly meetings and your participation is important. On Nov. 5 the Blyth Taoist Tai Chi Society hosted a time of fellowship with the Goderich club. A morning of Tai Chi and a lovely potluck lunch were enjoyed by all. The winner of the 125th calendar draw on Nov. 8 was Randy McVittie of London. Bodie Craig is in Seaforth hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery. Many relatives and friends gathered together on Sunday afternoon at Blyth United Church for After six weeks 1st Blyth Scouting is again well underway for another exciting year of program activities, outdoor events, and new learning opportunities. Youth are being registered from Auburn. Belgrave, , Brussels. Blyth and Londesboro area. Colony leaders for 19 Beavers are Fred Hakkers, Kerry Nesbitt and Heather Wood. Two more prospective leaders will be interviewed. Beavers meet on Tuesday evening, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Blyth Public School. Pack leaders are Alan Young, Nancy Hakkers, Allan Peel and Rob Kolkman. Becky Nethery is assisting as a scouter in training. One more leader will . be interviewed. Twenty-one Cubs meet Tuesday, 7:30 - 9 p.m. at the Blyth Public School. They began the a memorial service for Dwight Campbell and a time' of fellowship and memories after the service. Ushering at Blyth United Church on Sunday, Nov. 10 were Doug Howson and Fred Hakkers. Guest musician was Margaret Kai. The congregation stood to recitte the poem In Flanders Fields and for a minute's silence to remember the fallen soldiers. 0 Canada was sung. Rev. Eugen Bannerman's story to the children was about how the poppy came to be a symbol of the war. He also explained In Flanders Fields to them. The children sat and watched the dramatized lectionary reading from Judges 4: 1-5, 3. Participating were Amanda Bearss, Amelia Carter- Brown, Chelsea Carter-Brown, Meghan Watson, Brandilyn Bearss and Aleisha Dale. - Psalm 90 was read responsively. The gospel reading was Matthew 6: 19-21: 25 31-46. scouting year with a weekend camp at Point Farms Provincial Park. The boys are now working on the Blue Star for Home and Community Awareness. Fourteen new cubs have been invested. Troop leaders for 21 Scouts are Lavern Clark, David Cartwright, Gerald Hakkers and Kim Losch. They meet Wednesday evening, 7 - 9 p.m. at the Blyth Public School. The sixth annual Atironta Camporama at Saugeen Bluffs Conservation Area was the first camp for the troop, Oct. 4-16. The next camp will be Nov. 15-17 with a Rev. Bannerman's message to the adults was the story of Col. McCrae. He was a Presbyterian and a Sunday School teacher. He was never too busy to lend a helping hand. He was in the First World War. He sought little for himself and was always ready to help. He had been a doctor in Montreal and continued being a doctor while in the war. He sat down amongst the dead one day and wrote In Flanders Fields. He was always with the soldiers at church and he conducted many funeral services for the fallen soldiers. Rev. Bannerman concluded with a phrase of Col. McCrae's mother had often said "What I spent I had, what I saved I lost and what I gave away I had. Next Sunday, Nov. 17 the Blyth Festival Orchestra will be performing at Blyth United Church starting at 10:45 a.m. hike along the Maitland Trail. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts all participated in another very successful apple day on Oct. 19. A total of $548 was collected which will be used for local scouting activities. Another fall fundraiser is the sale of scout popcorn which will wrap up soon. Delivery of the popcorn will be Dec. 7, with distribution to the customers the following week. Two Venturers have registered. The Blyth Legion, Branch 420 and the Blyth Lions Club are sponsors of 1st Blyth Scouting.
