THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2002. PAGE 15.
November day or any other time, 1
reflect upon a special call, how to be
holy and a model of Christian life for
others.
I believe you can be holy as
well!
By Fr. Lance Magdziak
St. Michael's R. C. Church, Blyth
As a small child as far as I
remember, the Feast of All Saints
was always filled with traditions and
customs.
In my native Poland, the first of
November as All Saints Day would
begin a few days before November.
Every year my family would go to
the cemetery before Nov. 1 and
prepare tombstones as well as the
surrounding environment for that
Feast Day.
As a little boy I would clean,
decorate, and paint if it was needed -
the beautiful tombstones. Sometimes
if neighbouring grave sites needed
work, I would do it.
The Solemnity of All Saints Day
celebrated in Catholic tradition is a
day dedicated to all who witnessed
to Christ during their earthly life,
doing the best to put into practice
Jesus' teaching. Every Christian is
called to holiness that is, to live the
Beatitudes. Some are examples to
all, the Catholic Church points out
our brothers and sisters who became
instruments of divine graces.
The Feast of All Saints sheds light
on the reason for the
commemoration of all the faithful
departed, November 2. It is a day of
prayer and of serious reflection on
the mystery of life and death. "God
did not make death" ... affirms
scripture. but "created all to exist".
