Sinkhole Study
Request for Information
The Ausable Hayfield Conservation Authority in cooperation with West
Perth, Huron East and the Ministry of the Environment, is conducting a
study to update information on the location of sinkholes in the area. This
study will help us better understand the susceptibility of sinkholes to
contamination from municipal drains and surface water runoff.
Sinkholes are funnel shaped depressions in the land surface that may
provide a direct pathway from channeling water into underlying bedrock
aquifers. Most sinkholes in this area are less than 15 ft. in diameter. Some
sinkholes have open bottoms that are capable of channeling a substantial
flow of water. Others may have closed bottoms that restrict water flow
and create small ponds.
At this time, we are asking the public for their assistance. Specifically,
we are trying to determine the location of any known or potential
sinkholes within the municipalities of Huron East or West Perth
The type of information we are looking for includes:
• Lot number • Approximate location of sinkhole on lot
• Concession • Property owner's names and contact
• Ward
information
• Municipality
If you have any information on sinkhole locations or wig' further
information about this study, please contact Peter MacDonald at the
ABCA office - 519-235-2610, E-mail: pmacdonald@abca.on.ca
FROM AUBURN
Club
meets
The Walkerburn Club was invited
to Pat Hunking's new home near
Belgrave for dinner on Monday,
Oct. 28. Pat used to live on the 13th
of Hullett coming here as a bride
years ago. Her son Robert and
family live there now.
After dinner Vera Penfound and
Ethel ball conducted the business
meeting. Minutes of the last meeting
were read and Bernice Norman gave
the treasurer's report.
It was decided that the November
and December meetings would be
combined this year. Instead of
individual gifts for nursing homes
members will present a good-sized
box of fruit, etc. for the wards, and
visit them that day.
Here I am home again after a
wonderful visit with my sister, Lois
Templar, in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Fortunately, my daughter Nancy
Denys went with me — if she had not
I would probably have been still
wandering around in Detroit airport.
Travelling has changed through the
years.
Anyway, Lois is 16 years older
than I am and and can walk circles
around me. She has had a busy life
having been a registered nurse who
worked except when her son and
daughter were small children, up
until retirement age.
If anything happens in their
community the child is brought to
her to see if a doctor is needed, she
she is still on duty.
Climate in Colorado is similar to
here except for humidity. Daytime
temperature is similar to ours.
My nephew Charles took us for a
tour of Mt. Collins — it does not
resemble our Rockies, more like
rising hills and valleys. We did see a
herd of elk though. They were used
to people and just kept on grazing as
people watched them on the other
side of a high fence. Quite
interesting to us!
It is good to be home again and
back into the swing of things.
Witches, clowns and ghosts were
out on Halloween. I welcomed all
these visitors with open arms —
however my little dog looked rather
ferocious with his fur standing up on
his back.

UCW enjoys special dinner
A special anniversary dinner was
held at Auburn United Church for
the UCW. This was to celebrate the
joining of two church groups to
become the United Church Women.
A meal and anniversary cake were
served. The latter was made and
donated by Ila Cunningham.
A short service followed the meal
with various articles being read from
the minute books — they brought
back memories.
It was nice that former members
who do not live in the district were
in attendance.
