Oct. 6 at Londesboro United Church, Doug and Cheryl Trewartha served coffee_and muffins prior to the service as part of the Alzheimer's Coffee Break program. Harry and Gail Lear greeted churchgoers and Mark and Laurel Mitchell received the offering. Rev. Judith Vaclavik of London conducted the worship service and offered the elements for the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Assisting with the observance of world-wide communion were Helen Dale, Marsha Szusz, Brian Whyte, Don Allen, Harris Snell and Garnet Wright. The senior choir's communion hymn offering was We Gather Here; Come Share the Lord. In the Old Testament reading, Isaiah 56: 1-8, God invites all believers to His house of prayer. The gospel reading from Matthew 15: 29-39 was the story of Jesus feeding the multitude with a few loaves and fishes. Rev. Vaclavik spent some time in Africa a few years ago assisting missionaries. During her time there she was part of a world-wide communion observance. She mentioned that even at that distance during the service she still felt at home and with God. Although the atmosphere and conditions in each country around the world are different, the energy service and love inherent in communion are the same, she said. As she told the children, no matter where we are in the world, God is there. God chose the elements as a symbol of His gifts of love, forgiveness and hope. Judith suggested we need daily to give thanks and appreciate the wonder of life from God. Also Christians need to be worthy of Christ's sacrifice in our daily living.
