By Jo-Ann McDonald What a great week at Branch 218. The Brussels Legion Branch hosted the zone membership and youth meeting on Tuesday evening with over 30 comrades in attendance. They broke into their separate groups following the opening and concluded the evening with a light lunch. The Friday night supper of sausage, sauerkraut and scalloped potatoes was attended by a small crowd. This week is roast beef. The Saturday fish fry and elimination draw was a fantastic finish to Legion week. Over 180 diners enjoyed the delicious deep- fried fish and all the fixings. The draws began shortly after 6 p.m. with the lovely Vanna White (aka Terry Buchanan). Musical interludes were provided by Donald Dunbar and Alice Brothers. At 8 p.m. the Legionnaire performers took the stage and presented acts from 1964 - the Ed Sullivan Show. Featured performers included Tiny Tim (Dave Taylor). singing Tip Toe Through the Tulips. Miss Vicki (Bob Cochrane) and the minister Rick McDonald. The Supremes (Ruth Lowe, Jill Sholdice and Jo-Ann MCDonald) performed Stop In The Name of Love. Fresh from across the border, or was that street, was the clown act BooBoo and Dots. The crowd screamed with squeals of delight when the Fab Four, The Beatles, took the stage. Terry Buchanan, Allison Cardiff, Keith Mulvey and Phil Graber sang She Loves You. Sherry Lewis (Sandra Josling) with her sidekick Lambcho0 (Linda Bird) performed a great visit to the legion. There were more squeals of excitement when the great Elvis Presley (Lisa Glanville) appeared to 'perform You Ain't Nothing But a Hound Dog. Suddenly we're slipping into cool, no darn, it's cold nights. I guess we'll get used to it and dig out the jackets and mitts. We were in Toronto last week for Artist Laurent Vaillancourt, stopped in Brussels last Wednesday on his "world tour", part of a symbolic gesture of peace. However, the world tour is unlike most; it is taking place entirely in Ontario. ___Vaillartcourt, along with artists Babek Aliassa and Paul Walty, mapped out a route through the province, stopping at 19 communities named after larger world centres such as London, Paris, Zurich, Dublin, Brussels and Moscow. a little business, a little fun and some visits with son Curt and with Nancy, Carolyn and Carrie at the McDonald, McAvoy, Exel abode. It was good to catch up on life in the city and see how everyone is doing, but as usual we were glad to be home. All reports on the fair were good. Hope you had a good time like all the folks we talked to. The rides and games. the food and the exhibits were well received once again. Good job! My brother Clif from Edmonton. was our guest this weekend. He attended his 30th anniversary Grade 12 class reunion. Over 40 classmates were able to get back for the At each location, Vaillancourt creates a globe of interlaced steel cables, woven on the spot. The sculpture is then to be left in the community. He built it at the fairgrounds and Dorothy Cummings of the, Brussels Agricultural Society hopes it can be mounted and placed in a permanent location. The tour began Sept. I I in Cairo and continues until Sept. 24, with the final stop in Alexandria. Information about the tour can ben found at world@nt.net . occasion, celebrated at the golf club near Wingham, including eight from the Brussels area. This was Clif's first high school reunion so he truly enjoyed the gathering as lives were bared and compared. Brian, Ken, Cheryl, Nancy, John and Joan were a few of the names I caught as he shared the night. Von and Pauline — former McCutcheon girls — did a fine job of organizing a party for Dad George on Saturday at the United Church to mark his 80th year. Lots of family and friends enjoyed the afternoon.
