WIEDS)
Dampening the embers
The Blyth Fire Department responded to two calls Monday afternoon, both to the same grass
fire. The first call at 1 p.m., gave an incorrect location and the smoke was not sufficient for the
firefighters to locate the fire. However, at approximately 4:15 p.m., a second call located the
fire at the corner of Clyde Line and Blyth Rd. where a grass fire had run along both sides of
a ditch next to a harvested grain field. The blaze was quickly extinguished. It was later
discovered the fire had been intentionally set to burn off weeds in preparation for straightening
of the drainage ditch. However, the department had not been forewarned as is required for
controlled burns. (Janice Becker photo)
