By Bonnie Gropp Citizen editor It can be difficult to fill long, hot summer days for youngsters, so the Huron East recreation department has revived an old program to give parents a breather. The Brussels Day Camp is operating until the last week of August with the exception of Aug. 5- 9 for young people ages six to 12. An average of 20 children have attended each day. Program director Susan Bieman, a Brock University phys ed major who will be attending teachers college in September, has actually run the program for two years. "(Director of recreation) Graham Nesbitt knew that Brussels had a similar program years ago and he decided to start it again," said Bieman. "I was hired last year to get it started, and though .00194roy WWq0/// /,6 we only had a few kids then, attendance this year has been much better." Youngsters at the day camp enjoy a variety of activities. One trip is taken every week, to local points of interest or to places like Sportworld. There have been bike rodeos and mini-Olympics, in addition to crafts and games. Bieman, 22, a daughter of Roger and Donna Bieman of the Belgrave area is a full-time employee, along with Crystal McLellan, daughter of Max and Barb of Brussels. Justine King, a daughter of Bill and Tammy of Brussels is the part-timer. Parents interested in signing their children up for the camp can pre- register by calling 887-6621. Cost is $50 a week for full days and $25 a week for half days. Daily rates are $12 for full and $6 for half.
