THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 2002. Obituaries DONALD McNALL Mr. Donald McNall of Clinton passed away at London Health Sciences Centre, University Campus on Tuesday, May 7, 2002. He was in his 74th year. Mr. McNall was born in ProvOst; Alberta on May 14, 1928 and was the son of the late Leonard and Mildred (Gray) McNall. Mr. McNall worked for Ontario Hydro and also farmed in Hu!lett Twp. He was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie McNall. He was the loving father of Marlene and Vaughn Toll of RR3, Blyth, Marsha and Bob Szusz of RR2, Goderich and Christine and Roger Moore of Benmiller. He was the cherished grandfather of Kerrie Szusz, Jennifer and Tim Elliott, Greg, Bryce, Andrew and Kaitlyn Toll, Shelby and Shawn Moore. He was the dear brother-in-law of irma McBeath of London. Mr. McNall was predeceased by his son Murray McNall, grandson Nicholas Moore and brother Edmund McNall. Friends were received at the Beattie-Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd., 153 High St., Clinton on Thursday from 6 - 9 p.m. where funeral service was held on Friday, May 10 at 2 p.m. Cremation with interment of ashes was in Blyth Union Cemetery. Rev. Paul Ross officiated. . As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to the Coronary Care Unit of the London Health Sciences Centre or the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated. GERRIT VERBEEK Gerrit Verbeek of Brussels, passed away at Seaforth Community Hospital on Saturday, May 11, 2002. He was in his 84th year. Gerrit will be sadly missed by his wife Marie and children Alice Marks and her husband David of Brussels, Jack Verbeek and his wife Judy of Atwood, Peter Verbeek and his part- ner Elaine of Sudbury and Harry Verbeek of Bluevale. He was the dear grandfather of Rose, Susan, Sandra, Lori, Brandi and Tyler. He was also loved by his sister Reik and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Verbeek was predeceased by his son Hans. Friends were received by the fam- ily one hour prior to the funeral serv- ice conducted at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels, on Monday, May 13 at 2 p.m. with Rev. IONA MARY McLEAN Iona Mary (Johnston) McLean of Brussels, passed away at Huronlea Home for the Aged on Friday, May 3, 2002 in her 77th year. Born in East Wawanosh Twp. on Aug. 20, 1925, Iona was the daugh- ter of the late Clarence Johnston and Marjorie Grasby and the beloved wife of the late Donald Roderick McLean. Iona will be sadly missed by her children David McLean and his wife Shirley of Acton, Doug McLean and his wife Janet of St. Catharines, Ken McLean and his wife Bev of Russell, Glenn McLean and his wife Yvonne of Clinton, Keith McLean and his wife Pam of Brussels and Karen Wosnitza and her husband Rainer of Winnipeg. She was the dear sister of Ken Johnston and his wife Thelma of Blyth. Mrs. McLean was also loved by her 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren as well as her many family and friends. Friends were received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, 401 Albert St., Brussels, where the funeral service was conducted on Monday, May 6 at 2 p.m. Rev. John Neilson officiated. Pallbearers were Iona's children. On Feb. 15, 1990, Matthew Caryalho was killed by a drunk driv- er. Five years tater Matthew's father became chatpe-rsor, ADD Canada where he served from 1995 until 1999. Dedicated in Matthew's memory, the fifth annual Matthew Paul Carvalho poster contest is now underway. This contest is held in conjunction with MADD Canada's national writing contest. The contests were created to try to involve the young children who are often forgotten in the fight against drunk driving. There are two age categories — 10 years and under and-- I1 — 14. MADD would like to pro- vide these children -with a creative way of expressing their concerns about drinking and driving. The theme for this years contests is: Choose the road to life! — Don't drink and drive.
