(David Blaney photo) The regular meeting of Belgrave Evening Unit to Knox United Church" was held Tuesday evening, May 7 at the home of Lorna Cook with 15 members present. Lorna read a poem, No one but Mother. Muriel Coultes led the worship service, written by Muriel Duncan. Scripture lesson was Ecclesiastes 3: 18-21. -Meditation was a reflection of growing up on a farm and having a real respect for animals as creatures of God. Great is Thy Faithfulness was sung followed by prayer. The June Evening Unit meeting is June 4 at the home of Jane Grasby. Homes for fall meetings are as follows: September, Louise Bosman; October, Norma Moore; November, Donna Shaiv; December, Muriel Coultes. The program was given by Barbara AnderSon and Laura Johnston. With the aid of a video they showed the lives of children in Korea. The 40th annual meeting of Loadon Conference United Church Women was held in Parkview United Church, Stratford, May 5 and Mabel's Moms met at their regular time on Wednesday, May 8. Those who attended were Lila Procter and Jessica, Linda Hess and Judith, Crystal Agombar, Nicholas, Gage, Curtis and Craig. Their topic was interior decorating. The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 22. The community wishes to congratulate Jamie and Susan Robinson on the birth of their son Hayden William Elston, born on April 25 at St. Joseph's Hospital, tondon. Congratulations Jamie and Susan. • Margie. Gordon recently, paid a surprise visit to her mom and dad, Ruth and Bob. Margie who has been working in British Columbia was met at the airport by Candace Irwin. 6, with the theme, "Something God alone can See. Over 250 women from across London .Conference attended the event. On Sunday evening, the past presidents of -the conference were honoured, and presented with a 40th anniversary pin, and rose corsage. These included Mrs. Kay Cruikshank of Wingham, who was the third president, during the years of 1966 and 1967. The first and second president are both deceased. Muriel Coultes, Belgrave, president for the years 1991 and 1992 was also present. The only other president from Huron-Perth is Mrs. Margaret Engeland of Stratford who is the current president. Guest speaker on Sunday evening was Mayor Karen Has lam of Stratford, -who demonstrated her varied collection of hats. Moderator Right Rev. Marion Pardy, of St. John's, Newfoundland, was the guest speaker on Monday afternoon. She compared the United Church Women to the Mary and Martha scripture in the Bible, using as an example their desire to both study and learn, as well as doing the work in the homes and churches Margie will be returning to British Columbia to work there for the summer. Families of Margaret Taylor were dinner guests at the home of Ruth There were 10 tables of shoot in play on Friday, May 10. Winners were: high lady, Louise Bosman; second high lady, Nell Johnston; most shoots, Mary Macintosh; low lady, Audrie Vath; across the country. She commented that there are over 75,000 United Church Women, actively doing the work, "something God alone can see". Rev. John Brown, President of London Conference conducted the installation service for the new executive, and then assisted_ Rev. Pardy in the closing communion service. Other United Church women attending from this area besides Mrs. Rlobert and Mrs. Coultes were Gloria Dow, Barbara Anderson, Hilda and Amy Grant. The Afternoon Unit of the UCW met May 7 at the home of Mary Hunter. Kay Roberts thanked the hostess, then read a short poem - entitled, Garden of God. The minutes of the April meeting were read and approved. Lois Chamney gave the treasurer's report. Mary Hunter presented the Bible Study, continuing with the book of Matthew. Mary Taylor was in charge of the study_ and chose as her topic, The Decade to Overcome Violence. Mrs. Roberts closed the meeting with the benediction. and Bob Gordon on Mother's Day. The next shoot is Friday, May 24 at 1:30 p.m. FROM BELGRAVE WMS meets The •WMS held its meeting at the home of Irma Mason. Dini Nethery read scripture from Proverbs. A reading on, The Lives of Women was discussed. Margaret Siertsema gave the secretary's report and Ivy Cloakey gave the treasurer's report. Roll call was answered by replying with a woman's name in the Bible. Mrs. Cloakey -closed with a prayer. The WMS is holding a yard sale on Saturday, May 18 with the proceeds going towards the new roof on the Presbyterian church. This is to be held at Freda Scott's. On Sunday, May 5 a dedication was held in recognition of the new Bibles at the Presbyterian Church donated by. the Siertsema family in honour of Hazel Dalrymple, the organist for many years. Debbie Siertsema and Darlene VanderVeen sang duets. Rev. Cathrine Campbell spoke of Hazel's love of the Bible and her dedicated service to the church. s„. ...,,', ....,,,.
