Congratulations to Rick and
Bonnie Finch of Clinton, the
winners of the May 10, 125th
calendar draw.
The community extends their
sympathy to the family of Don
McNall in his passing away last
week. We also extend our sympathy
to Donna Moore and family in the
death of Donna's mother, Barbara
Good of Listowel.
Several relatives attended the
interment service at Blyth Union
Cemetery for the late Hazel Petts,
who passed away earlier this spring.

The 125th committee is looking
for suggestions as to what to do with
the autographed quilt made by the
ladies. Please let Bev Blair or Donna
Longman or any of the committee
know and help make the decision.
Steven Webster of Blyth attended
the May 6 meeting of council to
discuss his concerns over the doctor
shortage.
Webster said he had recently
returned from Russia, where he
spoke with a doctor who expressed
an interest in coming here. Since
then he has spoken with the
University of Western Ontario about
what would be required.
He said he intended to keep
looking into this and would keep
council informed.

Council gave permission to local
Legions to sell raffle tickets in the
municipality.

A request from the Blyth Lions for
permission to hold a beer garden
during the CKNX campout and show
at the fairgrounds was granted.

The grand opening of the Alice
Munro Literary Garden in Wingham
will be at 1:30 p.m., July 10.
***
• Council will enter a team in the
Wroxeter Ghost Town Hoedown
outhouse race, May 25-26.
***
A resolution from the Regional
Municipality of Durham asking the
province not to sell Hydro One was
supported.
***
Council also supported a
resolution from the City of Kawartha
Lakes asking the federal and
provincial governments to
implement a 'made in Ontario safety
net program'.
There are also souvenirs available.

Public School on the weekend of the
celebration Aug. 3, 4 and 5.

Verna and John Evans of Sarnia,
visited with Verna's sister Marion
Calvert and Joyce Anderson from
B.C. on Friday, May 10. Also
attending the dinner and evening at
Nancy and Ed Daer's were Tricia
Daer, London, Doug, Joyce, Heidi
and Jamie Craig of Atwood, Deb and
Fred Hakkers and boys and Don,
Marilyn and Dave Craig, all of
Blyth. Marion and Joyce were
staying with the Garniss family and
spent some time with Isabel Garniss
of Wingham. They returned to their
homes on Saturday, May 11.
The Blyth Scouting movement had
a very successful Saturday, the
Beavers with a bake sale in front of
the Memorial Hall, the Cubs sold hot
dogs on the town parking lot and the
Scouts had a garage sale at the
veterinarian office parking lot.
Communities in Bloom committee
sold planter boxes on the Olde Blyth
Sud Shoppe.
Greeting at Blyth United Church
were Irma Mason and Judy Gleave.
Ushering were Terry Richmond,
Lloyd Sippel, Chris Gleave and Rob
Mason. Guest musician was
Margaret Kai. Rev. Bannerman
welcomed everyone to the Mother's
Day and infant baptism service.
Amanda Bearss and. Stephanie
Sanderson read the dramatized
scripture from Mark 10: 13-16.
Clerk of the session, Brenda Brooks,
presented Chadwick John Eric
Ortman, son of Patricia and Eric
Ortman for baptism along with his
godparents and sponsors, Catherine
Badley and Darlene Smith.
Amanda and Stephanie read the
paraphrase of Psalm 23, "God is like
my Mommy."
Rev. Bannerman's message on this
Mother's Day was, Grandparents
and Grandchildren. Some of the
quotes from a Grade 3 class when
asked, What is a Grandmother and
Grandfather?, were: a grandmother
is a lady-who has no children of her
own, she likes other people's little
girls; a grandfather is a man
grandmother. He goes for walks and
talks about fishing and driving
tractors; Grandmas are old and don't
have to do anything," they wear
glasses and they can take their teeth
and gums out.
